Reg Roberts writes: I believe that if (when?) the Wallabies beat the Canadians this weekend, it will be the first time since we lost our 3rd ever Test that our overall win percentage will be 50% (we have always been under this mark).
This includes those NSW Waratahs games back in the day that have since been awarded capped games.
Can anyone verify this – as I think its fairly worthwhile acknowledging.

Ok, I’ll reply to my own comment first. By my reckoning we currently sit on:
475 games of which we have won 237. We’ve lost 224 and drawn 14.
So if we win this weekend 476 it puts us to 238 wins which is a flat 50%.
Way back in 1899 we won our first test match agains Great Britain, so were sitting on a 100% record. Hard to sustain obviously. We lost the 2nd test, which brought us back to 50%. Unfortunately we lost the 3rd test which put us to 33% (approx) and we’ve been (well) below 50% ever since.
Until Saturday night that is.
Nothing compared to the ABs, who sit around 80%.
But up until 1984 (when Allan Jones took over – and the Grand Slam year), I think our win percentage was about 33%. Thereafter it is about 66% (or thereabouts).
Many people who grew up in the last couple of decades possibly don’t realise we were effectively a minnow until the 80s. Fair comment?
