Harbhajan happy to talk it over

Fiery off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has offered an olive branch to Australian adversaries Matthew Hayden and Andrew Symonds, saying he’d be happy to talk things over with the pair.

Harbhajan, Hayden and Symonds were central figures during the bitter Test and one day series completed in Australia earlier this month, capped by Hayden calling the Indian an “obnoxious little weed”.

But Harbhajan appears to have softened his stance towards the Australians, saying he’d be pleased to sort things out if Hayden and Symonds did as well.

“These things happen in the game, and I am happy if he wants to patch up,” Harbhajan told Mumbai’s Mid Day Newspaper when asked if he would accept an offer to resolve things from Hayden.

“I never had any problem off the field with him. He is more than welcome to come and talk it over.

“Cricket is bigger than everyone and I am no one in front of cricket.

“I always got on with the game and now if he wants to get on with the game, I am happy to talk to him. From my side, the issue is solved.”

Harbhajan is also not averse to being friends with Andrew Symonds, who accused the 27-year-old of racially abusing him in the controversial Sydney Test.

“I am more than happy to be friends with everyone. What happens on the field should be left on the field,” he said.

“If you say something, you should be able to take it. Otherwise, don’t say it. I will be happy to put the issue behind me.”

Harbhajan has been selected for the first Test against South Africa, staring in Chennai next week.

The trio are expected to cross paths in next month’s Indian Premier League.
