Real Madrid ‘working hard’ to sign Ronaldo
Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster said his team is working hard to sign Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United.
The Premier League club has repeatedly insisted Ronaldo is not for sale at any price, but Schuster is not giving up.
“I think the club is working hard to get a solution to this matter and we’ll have to see what’s going to happen,” Schuster said Saturday. “We knew it was not going to be easy for Cristiano Ronaldo to come to Madrid.
“If you are asking me if I want him - of course. If you put this question to any coach, everyone would want to have him. He’s a great player for any coach.”
The 23-year-old Ronaldo, who scored 42 goals for the Red Devils last season, is sidelined until October after surgery on his right ankle last month.
Schuster was speaking in London after Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Hamburg in the opening match of the Emirates Cup.
