Ronaldinho has one desire at this year’s Beijing Olympics: to catch up with NBA superstar Kobe Bryant.
“He’s a great friend and a player that I admire a lot”, the Brazilian ace said after training.
The new AC Milan midfielder showed enthusiasm regarding the possibility of meeting up with Bryant in Beijing – that is if Brazil beat Cameroon in their quarter final match in the Olympic football tournament.
“It would be marvellous beating Cameroon, winning the gold medal, and spending some time with Kobe.
“I can’t wait to arrive at the Olympic village and enjoy everything and everyone. That is just one moment four years in the making” Ronaldinho smiled.
Ronaldinho first met up with Bryant on August 2006, when his former club, Barcelona were touring in the United States.
Bryant, a Los Angeles Lakers superstar, lived in Europe for eight years and developed a love for football.
This week he received a signed jersey from Argentine midfielder Lionel Messi during halftime of Argentina’s win over Serbia.
But before both Ronaldinho and Bryant can meet up, there are others goals that need achieving.
For Bryant, it is the gold medal in the Basketball where his Dream Team are heavily favoured to succeed.
Ronaldinho meanwhile will focus on his sides match up against African heavyweight Cameroon – A side that knocked Brazil out in the semi-finals of the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
The Brazilian ace assured that coach Dunga “has a lot of confidence” and expressed the key to beating Cameroon is “to maintain possession of the football.”
However, Ronaldinho is cautious of his opponents’ ability on the football pitch.
“They (Cameroon) are always attacking and love surprising”.
