Finals not in our thoughts yet, says Laidley

North Melbourne coach Dean Laidley says the AFL club can not afford to look beyond tomorrow’s clash with Port Adelaide to a likely first-up final against Geelong.

The Kangaroos lost to the top-placed Cats last round – their only defeat in two months – and will face them again in a qualifying final next weekend provided they lock up fourth spot by downing the Power.

But Laidley said it would be too great a risk to even start thinking about possible finals match-ups before dealing with Port at the MCG tomorrow.

“If we do well and we win the game on Saturday, ring me up on Saturday afternoon and I’ll speak to you about the opposition,” Laidley said today.

“I’ll tell you right now, we don’t talk about who we play or who we might play the following week until we win this game of footy.

“It’s just a bit of a myth with the media guys that we start to talk about what may or may not occur.

“You just can’t afford to do that in this competition otherwise you get your pants pulled down.”

Meanwhile, Laidley welcomed the return of forward Aaron Edwards, who has not played AFL since round six because of a broken leg.

Laidley said Edwards hit form in the VFL last weekend, his third game back regaining match fitness.

“He was able to get on a good ground last week down in Tassie, we thought he led up really well, his fitness was good and he finished his work with four goals, so he’s a handy inclusion for us,” he said.

Jim Beam Devil's Cut

As bourbon ages, a portion of liquid is lost from the barrel due to evaporation. This is known as the Angel's Share. When the bourbon is taken from the barrel, a certain amount is left trapped within the wood. It's that extracted liquid, and the rich flavours from deep within the barrel that are in Jim Beam's Devil's Cut.
