Djulbic needs to keep cool says Mitchell

Banned Perth Glory defender Dino Djulbic will need to convince coach Dave Mitchell he is capable of keeping his cool before being allowed to resume his A-League career.
Djulbic was handed a five-week suspension by Football Federation Australia’s match review panel and fined half a week’s salary by the Glory (the maximum the club could impose) for his highly-publicised dummy spit in Perth’s 5-2 loss to Sydney FC last Sunday.
The 25-year-old was initially yellow carded for arguing the merits of a penalty but just seconds later was shown a direct red for allegedly spitting in the direction of referee Peter Green.
Fortunately for Djulbic he was cleared of that charge and instead found guilty of the lesser offence of unsportsmanlike conduct but Mitchell said the Bosnian-born enforcer needed to show he could control his temper before being let back into the side.
“Absolutely (he will have to convince me before he plays again),” Mitchell said.
“He is aggressive and that is in his game, but it’s fire in the belly and ice in the mind, that is what he has got to have.
“He has got the fire in the belly but he has also got to have that calmness in the mind.
“Whether it was fair or not, Dino let the team down, let himself down and let the club down and there had to be actions and sanctions and we’ve taken appropriate action for that.
“He is a committed guy and he has got to calm himself down in certain situations.
“All the players were warned at the start of the year that referees would be clamping down on dissent.
“I don’t think he actually spat at the referee, I think he spat at the ground, which a lot of players do, so I think he was a little bit unlucky in that sense. But we are copping it and it is going to hurt us.”
Djulbic’s absence compounds the Glory’s defensive woes.
Already without the injury-prone Hayden Foxe, who is still several weeks away from resuming from a foot injury, Mitchell may be forced to return Jamie Harnwell to the centre of defence for Perth’s home clash with Queensland on September 14.
Meanwhile, midfielder Wayne Srhoj, who played for Sydney Olympic in their 2001/02 Championship triumph over the Glory at Subiaco Oval, has signed on with Perth for the upcoming season.
“Wayne is a very good technical player and has got a good passing range, but he is not fit yet,” Mitchell said.
“I don’t think he will be taking part for a few weeks yet. I can’t see him taking part in the Queensland game.”
