Adelaide United has won a postponement of an A-League match so they can focus on their Asian Champions League (ACL) final.
United said today Football Federation Australia had agreed to reschedule their November 8 game against Central Coast to November 15.
Adelaide face Japan’s Gamba Osaka in the two-legged ACL final on November 5 in Japan and November 12 in Adelaide.
The Reds asked for the A-League match to be moved to concentrate on the lucrative finals.
The postponement coincided with Adelaide’s return home today, with coach Aurelio Vidmar declaring his players had just one more mountain to climb.
“Certainly it is a fantastic moment for the club and everyone is really rapt to get into any final, let alone an Asian Champions League final, so we’re really pleased and we’d like to go another step further if we can,” he said.
Making the final was all the more significant given his club’s scant finances and resources compared with their Asian rivals, he said.
Captain Travis Dodd said the magnitude of the aggregate semi-final win over Uzbek outfit Bunyodkor had yet to sink in.
“It’s hard because you don’t really get a chance to think about it with all of the travelling, and then we’ve got another game tomorrow in the A-League, so we’re always on the go,” he said.
