Dragons breathing fire in NBL

The South Dragons are looking the in-form team in the NBL right now. On a hot 5 game winning streak they seem to be taking all before them.
It all began with a solid win over the Blaze at the Gold Coast Convention center. No surprises there despite the road trip.
They then traveled down to Woolongong with another good win the result. While the Hawks have been a bit up and down it would have by no means been a given.
Next on the list were the struggling Spirit at the old Kingdome in Sydney.
The Spirit made a game out of it but the Dragons were too focused in the end and held on for a close one.
With Brian Goorjian having had a few words to say about his team’s road trips, the next night they hosted the reigning champs on home soil.
The Tigers were no match and the Dragons delivered them an almost embarrassing defeat.
Now if that wasn’t enough the Taipans, who’d just come off a win over the the early in-form Breakers, traveled down to Hisense to be given the same stinging welcome the Tigers had received a week earlier!
Is it the Goorjian factor or are the Dragons simply coming of age?
Whatever the reason they’re sure to provide some exciting basketball for the remainder of the season.
My tip is for a local derby down in Melbourne come playoff time but it is early days yet.

Wow, someone is actually watching the NBL??? Amazing! Wasnt basketball big in the mid 90s?
The NBL, the worst run national league in the history of Aussie sports…..

The on court performances this season so far, such as those of the South Dragons, don’t reflect the problems the league has faced.
Those involved seem to have put all that aside and concentrated on playing the game.
And those who have watched have been treated to some great entertainment.

No doubt Trevor, its just that noone cares. The national basketball powerhouse that is Victoria has only two teams, theres no team in Brisbane, and the team manufactured in Sydney will soon die. Couple that with the ludicrous points cap that can see the Tigers stack their team, and things dont look good for basketball credibility wise, no matter how good the play is. It doesnt matter if tha games are NBA standard if noone cares!

The South Dragons sure are playing well and we are getting the biggest crowds out of all the teams. I think sledgeross should go to a game and then make a judge ment as it seems that Basketball is making a slow rebuild in Victoria. Hayden,
I haven’t been to a South’s game this season yet but the Tiger’s games I’ve attended have attracted decent crowds.
And those Dragons are dishing it up to the fans!
Six on the trot now isn’t it?
Great stuff!
Thanks for that link.
