Jordan, Syria and Kuwait have been cut from the list of nations eligible to enter clubs in the remodeled Asian Champions League in 2009.

The Asian Football Confederation’s Pro-League committee, charged with restructuring the competition, today announced the 14 nations that had met the professional and administrative criteria for having clubs in the 2009 competition: Australia, Japan, South Korea, China, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Iran, Indonesia, Singapore, Uzbekistan, Qatar, Thailand, Vietnam and India.

Jordan, Syria and Kuwait were deemed ineligible because they did not submit full documentation for eligibility before the October 1 deadline.

The 2009 ACL will be expanded to 32 clubs drawn from the top 11 leagues.

A final decision on which of the remaining 14 eligible nations do not make the final 11 will be taken on November 25.

That decision will need to be ratified by an AFC executive committee meeting the following day.

The three nations which don’t make the final cut of 11 will be able to enter clubs into qualifying rounds for places in the ACL group stage.

Those qualifying rounds will also involve the winner and runner-up from the AFC Cup, the continent’s second-tier club competition.
