Rickety, I agree that Australian cricket and Cricket Australia has lost its way.

More Importantly and more worryingly, they don't even know it yet!!! How they don't, I will never know. I guess it just depends where they have stuck their heads!!!!!

Hey Spiro, I took my 10 year old son to his first test match yesterday and we sat in the O'Reilly Stand, it was a wonderful day at the SCG. I recollected my first test back in January 1964 sitting in the old Brewongle stand watching Richie Benaud (90) and Graham McKenzie (76) belt Peter Pollock and Joe Partridge all around the ground. It was the day that I fell in love with the game. Wind forward to yesterday and it had the same impact on my young bloke. There is a majesty about the SCG which words cannot adequately describe - it just feels great to be there!

I too bemoan the fact that the selectors did not blood young Hughes in a dead rubber. Watching Hayden yesterday was painful. I know it is a tough job be a selector and I don't envy them their lot but there is something seriously amiss with this mob and I now put the Cricket Australia Board into the same lot.

spiro, a day at the cricket. Hmmm. a romantic and very social occasion, particularly the ritual of the Sydney test. I particularly liked your comment regarding Hayden "feet planted .....". Oh so true. hardly the technique or form that would get you selected to open the batting in such a crucial game as this one.

Lets not forget that we are playing to avoid being the first Australian team to give up a clean sweep of a series in Australia, in 130 years I believe!!!

This is no joke and a loss here, despite how inevitable it is, will do untold damage to the psyche and confidence of the whole team for years to come. The selectors and Cricket Australia should be ashamed to have let such a poorly prepared team compete against such a quality team as the Proteas in such important individual games and the overall series.

The ramifications are deep and wide for years to come!!!!

Yet, the selectors are not even minded to apologise or accept the error of their ways over the past four series (Caribean, India, NZ and SA)
