Is Phil Waugh off to Llanelli?

Word has filtered in from the NSW Waratahs camp that Phil Waugh has already signed with Llanelli in Wales for the 2010 season.
If this is correct, the Waratahs will have a hell of a job on their hands replacing their Mr Durable, who has lead the side so energetically and expertly from the front.
It beggars the question: are the Waratahs capable of rising above the loss of the inspirational skipper?

great scoop work, if this is the case… have Greg Growden’s underground moles found a better place to air their news??
The power of “do it for Phil” can’t be underestimated for the Waratahs for the remainder of the season..

Yeah got to admit that would be a great scoop if it comes off. papers could even quote the roar for the scoop.

Players leaving Aust rugby teams for Europe? Why isn’t there any media hysteria? Isn’t this evidence that RU is dying in Australia?

I think it’s more about the code being grown up

Hope so. Then the Sydney-centric media can stop their continual whining and continual promotion of the third ranked No.7 in Australia.

Beau Robinson time to shine. Was aweseome all last year when he got on! Like Phil Waugh 2001.

Brian,
No it isn’t evidence RU is dying. I would be more worried if up-and-coming players like Pocock or Horne or Cooper decided to head overseas.
It will be a shame to see him leave but good on him if this is true. Not a bad way to see out your career. He deserves everything he can get after such sterling service to RU back home.

i sent this in to Spiro last week. having spoken to a number of waratah players over the past month, they have all confirmed his move to Llanelli.

Melon, with you all the way. Not fully convinced about Beau, but agree with a youth policy. Question remains who will be the Captain? Baxter, Mumm, Burgess, Beale, Carter. None fit the bill as they don’t have the experience. Sheehan does but isnt in the run on team and msot likely wont be any time soon. Vick’s, come back. Maybe Elsom will return to take over the reins.
