NSW Waratahs captain Phil Waugh has denied a report he’s signed for Welsh club Llanelli for 2010. As was reported on The Roar, Waugh, who is off-contract with NSW and the Australian Rugby Union at the end of 2009, could be heading to Wales.
It has been speculated 29-year-old Waugh could head to the northern hemisphere to continue his career, particularly as he has struggled to start Test matches ahead of Brumbies flanker George Smith.
The emergence of Western Force No.7 David Pocock has also led to suggestions Waugh could struggle to attract a large ARU top-up to his Waratahs contract.
“We’re just trying to work out my future at the moment so that’s not the case,” Waugh told AAP.
Waratahs coach Chris Hickey said negotiations were ongoing to keep Waugh in Sydney.
“As fas as I’m aware we’re still negotiating with Phil and very keen to keep him here with NSW and he’s very keen to stay,” Hickey told AAP.
