Manchester City’s £32 million spent on Robinho may be the most a club has ever paid for a bench warmer if the Brazilian star doesn’t start showing some form.
City’s Martin Petrov has spent much of the season on the sidelines and it’s believed that when the when the Bulgarian is fit again Robinho will be dropped to provide greater balance and a more reliable supply line from the left flank.
Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger’s believes that it takes imports six months to adapt to English football, however Robinho has had the opposite effect.
Settling immediately, the Brazilian star managed to score 12 goals for city in 2008 but 2009 has been a year of diminishing returns: no goals, one assist and substituted frequently in recent games.
As the quest for Kaka confirms, money remains no object for City. Nevertheless, that does not guarantee a future for the biggest buy.
