Scott Prince is the king of the Gold Coast, with the Titans co-captain writing his own lifetime contract that will see him retire with the NRL club.
Prince signed a four-year contract extension with the Titans on Wednesday, keeping him on the Gold Coast until the end of 2014.
The 29-year-old will be 34 when his deal expires and has not ruled out running around again or moving into a coaching role with the club.
Prince, who skippers the team alongside Luke Bailey and has been a Titan since their inception in 2007, says his only goal for the next five years will be to bring a maiden premiership to the Gold Coast.
“This contract pretty much rules out going to the Super League or any other sport, the union, so I’m happy to stay here and know that I’m retiring a Titan,” said Prince.
“I don’t want to leave.
“It has been special to be a part of something new and it’s still a very young organisation, I think we’re still learning, but it’s exciting what’s over the mountain.
“Now, it’s all about chasing the holy grail.”
Titans chief executive Michael Searle said the signing, which came a week after the club finally managed to secure hooker Nathan Friend, was another “important piece of the puzzle”.
“(Prince) said `I’m not going anywhere, I’ve got no intention of going anywhere, so let’s work it out’,” Searle said.
“It wasn’t about leveraging and using other sports and other clubs, it was a nice deal, a good deal.
“We see it as a life-time contract. We sat down with Scott and asked him how long he thought he could play for. He said to the end of 2014.
“He will finish his career here.
“You would not rule out the chance of Scott coaching if he saw that as a career path for him.”
While family played a big part in Prince’s decision to set up camp on the tourist strip, he has faith the coaching staff and the current playing list can deliver the club’s first premiership.
This season, the Prince-led Titans have enjoyed another positive start to the year, losing only one game in the opening five rounds.
The Titans also managed to beat the Bulldogs and Melbourne without Prince on the paddock and the star halfback said it proves the Gold Coast are not a one-man team.
“I think it is a stupid statement that the team cannot win without me,” he said.
“It’s very pleasing to see the guys can step up to the mark when needed, especially off the back of two tough road trips.
“I’m sure in the future we’ll sign a few other key players – high profile players I’m hoping – but in terms of the playing roster now, I’m very happy with (it) and I think it can go a long way to making a bit of history.”
With Prince glued to the Gold Coast – one of several major signings – the Titans are now likely to turn their attention to veteran Preston Campbell, whose contract runs out at the end of the season.
Searle said Campbell, 31, had a future at the club as long as he wanted.
“There is always a home for him here in this club and organisation,” said Searle.
“The day Preston retires is his choice.”
