Whose playing better out of Taufua/Richie/Houston/Simmo and Perry this year on form? They’ve all had a crack in the front row, and, imo, played better than ANYTHING Perry has put in this year. Old Perry straight back into his ‘ hey we won the comp, i must be a pretty great natural footy player, i just won’t put any effort in, get back to being fat, lazy, slow and a penalty machine.

Knights are looking good IMO. I backed ‘em to make the top 8. To an outsider it looked like they had a culture problem like so many teams a few years after they win a premiership. Basically every team apart from the Broncos that have won a premiership since Super League has hit the bottom of the table a few years after: Melbourne after ’99, Knights, Roosters, Bulldogs and Tigers. Premiership players seem to lose their hunger. When Brian Smith came to the Knights they were a rabble. The team has really improved since he’s been there. I’m not saying he is the mesiah and maybe another coach could have done even better. But at least they’ll the give you a good honest run for your money when you back them now…

I’m wondering what your point is here genius. You’ve said steroids and drugs, but all that happened under Hagan’s tenureship.

You mention B.Smith making excuses, yet all I see is MARKED improvements both on and off the field.

You mention second last, but we came second last with all the nuffies that Hagan brought into the team, not Smith?

Snowden is awful. He’s slow, unfit, has no ball-skills. The only thing he had going for him was a bit of pace, now he’s bulked up, he lost all that, and has got nothing. Luke Douglas is twice the player he is.

I repeat again, what, exactly, is your point here, genius?

I’ll now take a lot more interest in the Knights season. I guess it is definately “a watch this space”. One thing in Brian Smith’s defence though was that he was hired by the Newcastle board with directions to clean out the club and rebuild. There were many rumblings about a destructive culture within the club and that is why Smith had such a large broom.

Kade Snowden,Anthony Quinn,Josh Perry..the next time someone like Andrew Johns comes along the last bloke he`ll play under is Smith,to say Newcastle are going better than expected is a joke,they should be a powerhouse with the coalfeolds,hunter & Newcastle mid north as the base no one should touch them,now the base dosen`t even go to games..a joke & will finish down the bottom of the table with Smith bolting to England if he stays true to form.

znotty, I am also from Newcastle and am prepared to give Brian a decent go. I ask you which of the players he let go you would keep? On top of that, which of them would make the starting team now?

Newton left and couldn’t find another NRL club to give him a contract. Perry’s game has improved, but I think getting the arse provided the spark needed to revitalise him. After watching him get belted each week, I was sure he was made out of putty. Reynoldson was a shame, but I still think the starting players we have now are better. Let’s be honest, we were never going to win a premiership with those players. Brian simply knocked it on the head early instead of waiting a few years for these guys to leave on their steam.

It is easy to hold on history and the notion of a “proud local team” when the local boy is Andrew Johns and he is winning premierships! It is now time for the Knights to grow up and get competitive again without the best player in the world.

i’d say they are the most improved side from last year. besides putting the foot off the pedal on Sunday they look the goods and will be up there this year.

better to have a platform for the young kids to come through into rather than an old boys club

The Knights were once a team of locals boys playing for the local team with the big boys from Sydney,Every single young fella wanted to play for the Knights & those days are over,Smith has systematically punted all the senoir locals & replaced them with mid card average first graders (just like he did at St George & Parramatta) until the side bears little resemblance to the proud local team it was ,its the same at every club for Smith identify the best player & punt him,Gordon Tallis sat out a whole season rather than play under him,Jamie Lyons retired & Danny Buderus was shown the door quick smart,25 millions dollars worth of players Smith went through at Parra & came up with a duck egg,you can be sure that Smith is probaly working out a way to punt Gidley & replace him with Hornby (no offence Ben) & now that Mullins is out & Gidley will certainly be on Origin duty you watch the nose dive about to come,Smith will leave the knights in tatters & he will blame the knights for it but at least then the locals can have their team back..
one thing further i`m from Newcastle & the locals really dont like Smith running about 8 to 2 against him & i mean “really”
