Following a week where Gary Lyon called for Fremantle to trade Matthew Pavlich, the captain of the beleaguered club chose to answer his critics with a dominant display against the Sydney Swans.

The match started with Fremantle kicking five goals to Sydney’s two in the opening quarter. Pavlich had considerable influence over the game playing in the midfield but swinging forward as the match played out before a vocal crowd on Anzac Day.

Lyon has called for Fremantle to trade Pavlich while he still has some currency following a disappointing month from the five times All Australian.

Pavlich has always held his cards close to his chest when it comes to contract renegotiation, but has remained a loyal club member, despite heated interest from both Adelaide clubs.

The meritorious win against the Swans was unexpected from many quarters with the Dockers installed as outsiders before the game but Fremantle did not waver, despite a spirited fight back from the tenacious Swans.
