Jason Smith was a stop-gap buy and unfortunately did not click. On the other hand Schiffoske was a great fullback and I would rank him above Hodgson and McKinnon and a wee bit below Bowen, Stuart and Hunt. Mogg and Drew were good buys. On another note Furner has a good football brain - the scrum move in the Parramatta game was a gem allthough disallowed. Still it is good to have some high profile businessmen in the board. Even a Brumbies legend won't be out of place. My gut feeling after watching the games that Furner will be a great coach. You need to judge the recent games in the context that he has got a really young side. What is important is that he won't be poached later by a Sydney, Melbourne or Queensland side. Henry let us get back on track, but just as things were coming together he bailed. Furner may or may not be a great coach, time will tell - but I'm glad they are giving him time and that he is a local. But I reckon they are a good football team. The missing ingadient I reckon is the management. What is your opinion on this? That will ensure good coach and players on a long term basis. Does that mean that there is something inherent with the club that makes it click allthough not to the top level? May be a consortium of legends together with some top businessmen and top passionate Federal Government beaurocarats if any can provide the momentum at the management front. The 1989 Grand Final - after sneaking into the top 5, the Green Machine did what no other team had ever done and made the Grand Final without losing a semi. After trainling the Balmain Tigers at half time, they then went on to win in extra time. Dont write off the Faders just yet.. if they dont win their next game - they are finished!
