Rugby convert Sonny Bill Williams says several of his former Bulldogs teammates will be at the Sydney Football Stadium to support him when he turns out for the Barbarians against the Wallabies on Saturday.
Williams says he’s spoken with some of his former NRL colleagues, including Cronulla’s Reni Maitua, after controversially walking out on the club during the 2008 season.
“A few of the boys will come. I don’t want to say their names, they might get in trouble,” Williams said on Monday at a Barbarians media conference.
“I’ve spoken to a few of the boys and they’re keen to come down and have a geezer.”
Williams said he had spoken to Maitua once since the Sharks utility tested positive to a banned substance.
“I feel for him at the moment,” he said.
“Hopefully it works out for him.”
Williams linked with the Baa Baas on Monday in preparation for his hotly anticipated rugby debut on Australian soil.
Barbarians coach Dai Young said he hadn’t seen a lot of Williams in the French Top 14 competition.
The coach said injuries would play a part in where Williams was selected for the clash with Australia.
