Why the Blues will win on Wednesday

Hallelujah! The selectors have finally picked a NSW Origin team on form and not incumbency. Watching the NSW coaching staff scratch their heads, wondering why they have lost three consecutive series in a row, is a bit like watching a blind person play darts: extremely frustrating.
The reason is simple – we have not picked the in form attacking players who are capable of breaking a game open with individual ability.
Make no mistake, the Blues outfit this year will take it to the Queenslanders in every aspect on Wednesday night. The creativity and intensity of NSW has tapered off badly in recent years, but strap yourself in for a game that will have plenty of points in it from both sides.
I have often been critical of Craig Bellamy’s influence on Origin. I felt he coached the fun out of the spectacle last year, and ultimately hindered the Blues’ attacking ability.
Turning State of Origin into a technical affair is like telling Mark Webber to keep it under 40km/h. It’s just not what the event is about. You want to see the best of the best thrash it out with a unique blend of steely aggression and finely crafted ball skill.
Enter Wednesday night.
I will boldly make the call right now: this will be the best Origin match in many years. It has all the hallmarks and build-up of an epic clash. Both teams are loaded with attacking talent, and the baby Blues poised to take down the star-studded Maroons!
That’s right, you heard me, David will slay Goliath on Wednesday night.
The Blues will step out of the shadow of defeat and rip the Queenslanders a new banana.

Ummmmmm isn’t that a reason why NSW won’t win?
Assuming you think they will win, I’d be more interested to know HOW you think NSW will win. Personally man for man all over the park I don’t see to many places where NSW are in front. Actually I don’t see any, I think the only way that NSW will win is if QLD has an off night, with all 34 players playing to potential I think QLD has it over NSW confortably.

um Chop, that statement you’ve quoted is given as the reason why NSW have lost the last three series – Adam’s saying the selectors have now (finally) reversed this “frustrating” policy in selecting the team for G1, and now having picked a team on form, “will take it to the Queenslanders in every aspect” and presumably win…
Having corrected you, I actually agree with your prediction. Qld look strong across the park, and while I hope they do come up short tonight, I’m not convinced they will..

Brilliant article Adam, and I wholeheartedly agree that this was the side to take it to a Qld outfit that is more or less the incumbent national side. They certainly had the attack you spoke of, but the defence just lacked intensity and that 20 minutes in the first half was just unforgivable… still though, plenty of positive signs!

1/Haynes try was a fair try – his heel did not touch the line, at that speed the heel does not contact the ground, 7 replays later? what a joke
NSw lost the plot after that – that was inexperience
Fact though is, we need some tought defenders out wide – the team is a good one, but Campese is not ready and it showed… Id keep the rest not sure who else to drop but two players who must be in for next game
Matt Cooper
and Trent Barret at 5/8
Have a loko at any orgin game in the past where Barret has played, usually best player on the field even in losing sides – those changes bring some starch to defense and alot of experience….
