Geoff, seeing that England is in with a chance to make the semis of the WC they may well expend their limited talent before the Ashes. Your ex-pupils also look good bets to make the semis and could come up against the Sfricans, What ails Afridi the batsman? I think they should open with him. Misbah ,too,is wasted down the order. Matches are won and lost in the first six overs. India were shaken up by both the Windies and England early in their innings and never recovered. We could be in for a Sri Lanka/Pakistan final and if Pakistan get their tactics right they could go one better than last time around.

Perhaps Inthikab is a touch conservative and outdated for this fast paced format.

Coming to the Ashes Australia may be sampling the bite of the Leicester cheese but will soon be sampling Sidebottom and Onions. Have the pitches in England become flatter and if so it will be difficult to beat good batsmen off the pitch. I would play Hilfenhaus who can exploit the atmosphere. Lee and Clark are more off the pitch bowlers. Hauritz remains the wild card. I think he has wrongly been pigeon holed as a defensive bowler. Ponting needs to use him as an attacking option and set appropriate fields. Ideally,Hauritz should come on with England a few down for not many and the ball is still hard. Even spinners like a hard ball. I believe it is time Ponting became a leader and not just a captain. Hard cheese if Lee misses out.
