Schalk Burger has recovered from a calf injury to be selected in South Africa’s starting line-up for the second Test against the British and Irish Lions on Saturday as the Springboks bid to wrap up the series.
The blindside flanker replaced Heinrich Brussow in the team announced on Tuesday.
Brussow stepped in for Burger and scored a try in his first start in last weekend’s 26-21 victory in Durban to give the world champions a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Brussow drops to the bench, with back-up halfback Ricky Januarie missing out.
The Lions, who need to strengthen the front row after being given a first-half mauling at Kings Park, will select their line-up on Thursday for the second Test in Pretoria.
The two teams also meet at Ellis Park in Johannesburg on July 4.

Jacobs is definitely the weakness there and I’m not convinced about Pienaar at 10 either.
Pietersen and Steyn aren’t world beaters either.
Bringing back the Burger will help the Boks though.

it does bring a more attritional defensive attitude as opposed the ball stealing capabilities of Heinrich. Burger in tandem with Juan cover alot tackles across the park though to cut down an oppositions momentum

Hey Greg Smith!
If the All Blacks are the McDonalds of International Rugby, why is it the Bokke that are bringing back an old Burger?
Pass the fries.

It’s a peculiar Springbok team. They looked badly unfit last week, so how is the introduction of a chap who’s not played in months going to help matters?
As for Jacobs retaining his place… Well, McGeechan will be doing cartwheels.
