Thomson turns on Ponting but still backs Australia

    How marvellous to hear from old Thommo. He’s quite right, of course. Ponting is a terrible flapper when his bowlers aren’t performing. The best captains exude a sense of calm under pressure, and young Ricky has never quite managed that.

    Thommo’s commentary is not in great demand in Australia. But obviously the English are happy to throw pounds his way as long as he throws barbs at the Aussies. Nice to have Yorkshire Pud,some good Bass Ale and talk through his nether regions.
    He will join forces with Botham in the commentary box and the two of them can rejoice in the fact that they have been chosen not for their ability behind the mike but deeds on the field many decades ago.

    Thommo’s a goose and no one over here really cares what he says.

    I do think we have better captains though – Katich being the obvious one.
