http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl/story/0,26576,25767480-19742,00.html

It should be pointed out that the landscape has changed thanks to today's news that Sheedy is pulling out of the race to coach the Tigers. He cited the fact he was unaware of Gary March's earlier comments (eventually aired on The Footy Show this week) about not seeing Sheedy as coach of Richmond during his tenure.

It seems a bit strange because those comments were made at a time when March still had a contracted coach -- what else was he going to say?

Anyway, for now, Sheeds is out of the race. The point about sticking to the club's process, however, still remains (especially if there's a push for one of the Collingwood guys, Malthouse or Buckley).

Excellent piece, Michael. I think you're right about this one considering the success of some of the younger coaches coming through. Despite their relative high-profile, the ideas of guys like Terry Wallace, Mark Williams, Denis Pagan & even Sheedy, it seems are behind the times and don't cut it anymore at AFL level. Richmond need to wake up to that.

As the Ben Cousins example showed, sometimes you need a push from the public and media, especially with a club that has such a poor record and just seems to have no idea.
