Whist we are on the topic of silly team names we should take a moment an dip our lids to the all time champs the Connecticut Bicentennials of the NASL (Atlantic Conference, Northern Division).

Apparently they couldn’t live with the shame of this name subsequently becoming the Stompers when they moved to Oakland. Irrelevant but not quite as daft.

So whatever silly name the AFL marketers come up with for the GC it probably won’t rank up there with that of the shortlived team from New Haven (there’s a limerick lurking in there).

problem was, Eagles had a number with front of jumper being blue, white and yellow with a little ‘eagle’,

and Hawthorn turned up with a number with the front of the jumper being brown, white and yellow with a little ‘hawk’.

How that got throught as avoiding a clash?!?!??!
