Winger Peter Hynes and prop Pek Cowan have been included in the Wallabies’ Tri Nations squad for this week’s trip to South Africa.
Coach Robbie Deans on Wednesday named a 24-man squad to travel to South Africa for Saturday week’s clash with the Springboks at Newlands.
Hynes travelled to New Zealand as the 23rd man for Australia’s series-opening 22-16 loss to the All Blacks in Auckland earlier this month, while Cowan has maintained his match fitness over recent weeks playing for Warringah in the NSW Shute Shield club competition.
The pair both had their most recent outings for the Wallabies during the 34-12 win over Italy at Melbourne last month.
The selection of four props gives the Wallabies crucial front-row cover in the event of any training injuries prior to the Test.
The presence of Hynes offers a further backline option after Australia fielded a five-forward, two-back split on the bench against New Zealand.
Deans will name his final 22-man line-up for the Springboks match on Thursday week.
The Wallabies depart for South Africa on Friday morning.

Cowan’s quite abrasive physically. Perhaps that’s reason? Or just wanted to take 4 props… Dissapointed Hodgson ddin’t get the call
