Sydney FC captain John Aloisi believes North Queensland Fury could prove a stumbling block to visiting teams after his side’s hard-fought 3-2 victory against the A-League newcomers in Townsville.

North Queensland showed they will more than make up the numbers in their inaugural season after they came from 2-0 down to draw level after a devastating opening from Sydney.

Aloisi, who went some way to silence the critics following an indifferent first season with the Blues, bagged a double to hand the expansion club a tough start in the top league.

“I thought they (Fury) were good it is going to be difficult for a lot of teams to come up here and play it is a difficult place,” Aloisi said.

“The supporters got really behind them especially when they scored that first goal I thought the atmosphere was really good.

“They are going to be dangerous here at home they are going to win a lot of games here.”

Aloisi conceded the Fury had largely escaped attention during the pre-season and were set to surprise teams in 2009.

“Yeah they are underrated, no-one expected the Mariners to beat Melbourne down in Melbourne and everyone expected North Queensland were going to be push overs,” he said.

“They are going to make life hard for a lot of teams … I think everyone is in with a shot.”

Aloisi refused to fire back at the critics who questioned his worth after only scoring two goals for FC last year.

“I am just happy that we won that is the most important thing,” Aloisi said.

“As a striker you like to score goals and its good to get off to a good start.

“We were here to get three points we knew it was going to be difficult and the whole team is happy with that.

“We know we can improve and we can play better.”
