Tuqiri may yet face questioning in France

Lote Tuqiri has flown out to France to talk to a few French clubs about his future. With the betting money now shifting to him settling in France, and the strong money on Bayonne, Tuqiri is likely to receive an offer he can’t refuse.
However, Tuqiri is quoted as being reluctant to uproot his family from his home in Balmain. But did he have a choice?
It seemed that part of the price he would have to pay if he stayed and rejoined League, was having to open up his private affairs, and reveal to the NRL why he had his contract with union cancelled.
NRL chief executive David Gallop had said publicly the dual international would have to outline the reasons behind his sudden sacking from the Australian Rugby Union before he would allow an NRL contract to be registered.
Some might consider that a reasonable request, others might say it’s none of his business, since the issue was privately settled.
But if it is relevant to the NRL, then should it be equally relevant to the FFR, and or the management of the French club that might sign him? Should they demand an explanation of his behaviour or the issues? Or, because it’s in France (and not Australia), then does it really matter?
Maybe this is how players with similar circumstances should be treated in the future. Like the former Bath players who resigned earlier this year – it’s quite likely any new erstwhile employers have a similar list of questions about former behaviour before they offer a contract to sign.

Indeed. Good call Mr Gallop.

Pothale, would it be fair to say that it would involve something of a moral backflip from the FFR, if they did request an explanation from Tuqiri, considering they didn’t have too much problem with Toulon pinching a player under contract from Australia??

I don’t know Brett. What do you think?
