Wayne from Windale, lucky I listen to you on the radio on NXFM and know that you are a comedian, otherwise I would’ve thought you actually wrote this article with these beliefs.

This is the stupidest idea ever, even more stupid then that time Peter got into a turf war with that cat..

And typically everyone has to get pumped up, beat their chests and say “my code is better then your code”
I can pick the stereotypes for and against now;

-Soccer (which should be called football according to fans) is the only true international sport, is better, more expensive and more uniting then all other codes/ soccer is gay and so is everyone who follows it
-AFL has bigger crowds and is better then all other codes/they wear singlets and the players spend most of the game in the backfield rubbing up against each other
-League – all other codes are for whimps and it’s a man’s game/ crowds are bigger at the lawn bowls on a saturday arvo at my local club
-Union – is an international game for all sizes and major sport played in many countries/ it’s is for elitist snobs and nobody watches it

Where’s the love guys? How about you all watch your own codes and don’t comment on anyone else’s and all will be well.

They will never merge.

NRL for the plebs, RU for the yuppies.

Enforce contested scrums and fair feeding in NRL.
Reduce goal kicking points in RU to 2 instead of 3.

All problems solved and the world (Australia) can move on hapilly.

At the end of the day everyone seems to agree that league and union shouldn’t “merge.” I hope though one day they can hold a combined game get the best of the wallabies and kangaroos and mix them up into two teams come together agree on some rules I think it should be 13 a side, maximum of three people on each team in a ruck, and they use a either a timer “shot clock” or 8 tackle count. Put them two weeks origin style camp to learn new skills and than play a game. Split the money two ways. If its a success (theres no doubt it would be) than try more. Once they do that AFL and Soccor would shit their pants. It is so stupid in NSW and Queensland how we weaken both codes by fighting each other and ignoring how awesome and similar both games really are. Its good to at least try new things it can’t hurt. Its better to pre-empt the threat of AFL than sit back and let it fuck us up. These league union debates devolve into a shit throwing match but theres alot of people like me who like and respect both and dnt want either to lose to the others.

No doubt Wayne, seems to be the same dribble you union lot drags out each year to try and save your game over there in Australia. Merging the codes would be the kiss of death for League. What’s with this “will revitalize and make for a more entertaining game” statement. Look at your own game of union and you’re find this statement to be true. Rule changes, scum collapses, kickerthons call a kettle black!

No Gort. Davies made the step down to league because money was flash in front of his face and because some English league club thought his skills and speed was better than some born and bread league players from Northern England and he prove this.
Davies became an instant sucess even though he never played league before and Im sure he was doing the same trainning the other members of his team was doing even if they were brickies or labourers.
Rugby supporters love to cheer on those from league who made the switch but league supporters always make sure the rugby bloke feels like an outsider until they realise he’s better than their teammates.

Nothing hurts Union junkies more than to admit that the greatest country on earth prefers to watch League over Union. It’s like tennis for me – I love playing tennis – but watching the sport on t.v is about as exciting as getting my hair cut. Both games are great in their own right – leave them the way they are. League will prosper over the next few decades if managed correctly, and if given the oportunities it has been denied in schools, armed forces, and industry throughout the world.

They need to merge, not many people realise it but the two games are very similar and fighting each other is just silly. it would be so great for the country to just have on code of rugby. it would make everything a lot easier in the whole country it would be like the epl 30 or so teams with the relegation system it would be perfect all it needs is someone at the top to stand up and say something.

Whar a ridiculous suggestion to merge league and union. It could never happen. The games a vastly different and it comes down to the ruck and maul in union and the 6 tackle count in league. Both games will survive and any suggestion otherwise i think is flawed.
As for the proposal of a hybrid test match in the paper over the weekend i dont think that will ever work. This is the obvious reason why it has only been tried a couple of times before and has failed.
The games are different and will always be different.

The games going from Stregnth to Strength every year, Memberships are up, Crowds, and the television ratings are on par if not better then the AFL. Incidently the BIGGEST football club in New South Wales is the Sydney Swans Football Club.

Merging the two is common sense. There are a lot of silly laws in RL, the uncontested scrum, one point for a droppie, no lineout.

League has to come to it’s senses and drop this foolish crusade and throw it’s hat in with union, before it has to come with cap in hand and beg union to take it back it. It will happen sooner than a lot of people think.

They really are about the same as they have been in the last few years. By making one code out of the two of them, I don’t think you will suddenly see a large attendance jump. Both codes offer different styles of Rugby, and there is no point merging them. I don’t really understand why you keep bumping articles, maybe read them first before posting to see if you are really adding something that hasn’t been said already.

Anyway, why would you want to take away all the Rugby we have now? I watched the Panthers vs Storm, and then started on Manly v Knights, but that match was a bit of a fizzer, turned over and watched the Tahs instead, scratching my head on how they had 21 points considering it was all the Blues from that point on (and yeah, the Tahs won, but the Blues are to blame for not converting all that possession and field position into enough points). Then over to the Raiders v Titans, and will pick up the Force match afterwards. This is Rugby Heaven!

Why would rugby union merge with League?? League has no credibility outside Australia. It’s a joke sport.It’s up there with neach volleyball and ballroom dancing as joke sports. It’s like saying McDonald’s should merge with the sloppy local fish n chip store. It’s only a matter of time before established league clubs in England, such as Wigan, Widnes, St Helens etc come back to the brighter lights and larger pay packets of Union. I’d give it 10 to 20 years. When that happens rugby league will consist only of the NRL, making it smaller even than the AFL. RIP league
