Harry Kewell returned to scoring form for his Turkish club Galatasaray to kick start a much-needed 4-3 win over league rivals Trabzonspor on Sunday.
Only just back in Istanbul after playing in both of the recent Socceroos matches in Australia, Kewell was looking sharp before opening the scoring in the 23rd minute.
The former Liverpool star collected a failed clearance in the penalty area, brought the ball onto his left foot brilliantly and hit a low drive into the back of the net.
It was the Kewell’s second goal of the season and first in seven matches for his club.
Teammate Servet Cetin made it 2-0 just 13 minutes later before Trabzonspor struck back just before halftime and again five minutes after the break to level the scores.
Kewell earned an early mark in the 64th minute before Arda Turan put Galatasaray back into the lead four minutes later and Milan Baros made it 4-2, with Galatasaray holding off a late Trabzonspor fightback.
The win kept Galatasaray in second spot, five points behind leaders Fenerbahce.
Kewell wasn’t the only Australian to find the net in the Turkish league on Sunday with his Socceroos teammate Mile Jedinak scoring his first goal for new club Antalyaspor.
The former Central Coast midfielder opened the scoring in his side’s 4-1 win over Diyarbakirspor with a free kick from outside the box in the sixth minute.
In the English Premier League, Socceroos midfielder Brett Emerton made a late cameo in Blackburn’s 3-2 win over Burnley.
Blackburn came from a goal behind to secure their third victory of the season, with Emerton coming on with ten minutes to go as he continued his recovery from a long-term knee injury.
There was no sign of Vince Grella, however, with the defensive midfielder forced to miss the match after picking up a thigh injury in Australia’s scoreless draw with the Netherlands.
Mark Bresciano played a full match in Palermo’s 2-1 win over Livorno in Italy despite missing the trip to Australia due to injury.

It’s more of a keeper blunder more then anything else. However it’s good to see a club entrusting Jedinak of free taking duties

It wasn’t Jedinaks first goal. He scored his first goal in his first game for Antalyaspor against Kasimpasa they won 2-1 and he got assist in the second goal of the game.

Agree that it’s ecouraging to see Jedi taking free kicks at his club, especially if he is to be a perma-roo in the next couple of years. but speaking of newbies…(tenuous link to this i know) anyone know much about the 18yo aussie midfielder playing for Frosinone (mentioned on tribal football and SMH today “Adrian Ucchino has broken into the first-team squad with Italian Serie B leaders Frosinone”)?

Goos to see Mile playing well. I hate for him to fail overseas and for him to come back her, though I can see the headline now “return of the jedi”

Yeh hopefully we have to wait until some club pays over the odds to bring back an ex roo from our fabulous 2018 world cup team until we see that headline
