The A1GP concept is in serious trouble

The A1GP motor-racing series was to be known as the World Cup of Motorsport. Instead of drivers being represented by teams in Formula 1 (Brawn, Ferrari, and so on), they were representing a country, such as Australia, New Zealand, or Great Britain.
However, recent events in Queensland are an indication that the A1GP concept is in dire trouble.
The A1GP Australian event was due to held at the Gold Coast, but unfortunately, the A1GP cars will not be seen at the Gold Coast because of increasing financial difficulties, with the ever-popular V8 Supercars taking its place instead.
There are signs now that the Queensland Government is seriously taking the orgainisers of the A1GP to court in an effort to reclaim their money. And it looks as though the chairman of the orgainising committee for the Australian event of the A1GP and his deputy will hand in their resignations.
It is a shame that the A1GP looks likely to go to the financial grave because there were several drivers in the A1GP series that would’ve been seen as having Formula 1 potential and could be in a Ferrari or Brawn F1 car.
The only ones who are happy about the demise of the A1GP concept would be F1 supremos Bernie Eccolestone and FIA President Max Mosely.
The reason being is that the A1GP was probably seen as a threat to the Formula 1 series.
The A1 GP debacle and also the cancellation of the Australian Indy GP could seriously harm Queensland’s chances of hosting the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Bernie and Max aren’t the only people happy that A1GP may be done. The IRL stands to benefit more from their demise than F1.

Yeah it is sad, I watched some great races out at Eastern Creek and was especially impressed with the silky skills of Nico Hulkenberg who you will see in a Williams F1 this year. Sad day because this was a smart concept with lots of overtaking and easy to enjoy.
