As a Wallaby supporter citing Carter makes the whole apparatus of citing look stupid. The offence was a penalty and not a yellow let alone a red card offence.

We dont need head high tackles but citing is a poor solution to what is a ref’s issue.

Carters tackle is worthy of punishment but how severe it will be is the question.
I am lead to believe from Prime news that the citing commisioner is an Englishman so I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets two weeks so he can’t play at Twickenham and hopefully give the pomes an advantage.
As for the Leonard incident it is annoying that the reckless Welshman wasn’t cited but hey whats new?
Smacks of hyocrisy to me and pot stirring.
Amazing how the ABs haven’t resorted to such gutless tactics as the Welsh.
Make enough noise and cry foul loud enough and you can as Gatland and the Welsh have done get someone to take note hours after the fact. What utter bull that the ABs get treated better.
Plainly obvious from this citing that the ABs /Carter in particular are being treated harsher.
I’d like to know what other roarers things more dangerous a high tackle or a boot to the head/neck?

Pothale I see you have avoided the Welsh romper stomper as well, not surprising that!

Ok, without wanting to harp on about injustices too much, I’ve just watched a replay of the Jones/Leonard incident and am seriously surprised Jones has gotten away without a citing. Leonard was in the vicinity of the ball and bent over before Jones even started towards the ball and, as the two players were coming towards each other, there was essentially no way Jones could actually kick at the ball without swinging his boots straight towards Leonard. Even if he’d got the ball he almost certainly would have collected Leonard too.

Simon Shaw got cited and suspended for his knee on Fourie Du Preez, I don’t see how this incident was less dangerous or less serious.

It wasn’t offside, it was general play. The reason Carter was coming from that angle is that the previous ruck was in the centre of the pitch and he’d been defending the other side. After the initial break down the left wing, the ball was passed infield and Roberts stepped further infield.

Pothale, I agree, while a lot of these incidents go unpunished Carters tackle was high & he’s been caught & will have to present his reasons to teh rugby version of court. The Welsh vitriol would have made it hard to ignore. What will make the ABs feel suitably agrieved is if the Welsh 10 gets away with using Leonards neck as a kicking tee, THAT was a red card.

The citing process is far from perfect, but it’s better than not having it. If I was a Bok fan I’d be having a quiet chuckle about now.

The swinging arm in that situation is meant to hit the ball to dislodge it. It’s not lazy, just poor executed.

Where was Cater comming from, I didnt see the game, just you tube link, Strange angle, was he off side ? Would that be the reason Gatlands gone off. Killed the momentum,Worth a penalty nothing more, Carter isn’t a dirty player.

It was the Welsh 10 but he kicked Brendon in the head & nobody wants to talk about that in the Press. Colin Meads got sent off in 1967 for that.

Colin Meads got sent off the field in 67 for a kick to the head. Brendon was kicked in the head but the press only seem interested when an All Black is at fault. Replay after replay but the kick to the head was not seen to many times ha . The All Blacks are the ones that take it on the chin time & time again !!!. The press should look at all the things that happen in a game to both sides.

By lazy tackle, I mean he was lazy in its application by going in too high, and leading with his swinging right arm. It was an illegal tackle and dangerous. There’s too many of them going on in the game.

Carter isn’t beyond reproach just cos he’s the golden boy of the ABs.

Citing is there to catch things that were illegal or deemed dangerous play. It has to be there or else players will be allowed get away with a lot more cheap shots.

Well it’s foul play and if it’s not picked up at the time, or on field punishment deemed insufficient then that match reviewer always has the option to cite.

Lazy tackle Pothale? There was nothing lazy about that tackle. Carter absolutely smashed the little fella and the Welsh play totally broke down. It was a fantastic tackle in timing and application, possibly an inch too high.

If the citing system’s there for that then they better start hiring citing commissioners, cause there’ll be a citing a minute.

Gatland demonstrated in one press conference why the NZRU weren’t interested in him.

Has pothale has said, there have been plenty of high tackles happen in matches.
But I can’t personally recall any match bans because of a high tackles? Is it common for high tackles to be cited, and if so is the player in question usually given a ban? Or is the citing more because there was no punishment at the time, and should the citing punishment be larger because the on-field punishment never came?

Roberts receives the ball from a pass and is away past Muliana. Carter comes in from his right and with a swinging right arm clocks him one head high, knocking Roberts head back with the impact and his left then comes round Roberts body.

It’s certainly a penalty there and then. No question. Bad miss by the ref and assistants. I don’t know enough about application of a yellow card, but it looked a lazy tackle by Carter. I’ve seen yellows handed out for less in terms of deliberate knock-ons, etc.

I wasn’t aware that a citing could only be applied if the offence merited a red card. There’s been plenty of high tackles happen and penalties and yellow cards handed out. Haven’t seen a red before.

The whole citing process is broken – technically, a player is only supposed to be cited for an offence that would be a red card. Could you really say the Carter tackle was a red? Borderline yellow, maybe.

Hopefully the worst he’ll get will be a week’s suspension as he probably wasn’t gonna play against Italy anyway.

I do like Roberts quote – “take it on the chin” indeed.

Gatland is a prize twat.
