Why has this affected Gatland’s ability to coach the ABs? If anything it shows him to be a bit of a shrewd operator, if somewhat of a winey little biatch.

He wasn’t going to play anyway. I bet the ABs are not unhappy with this outcome, as they don’t have to explain to the Italians why Carter’s in the stand rather than the pitch.

It’s political. The IRB was got to by Gatland’s ridiculous claims that international referees go soft on the All Blacks and by the provocative slow-mo replays of the incident by the ground broadcaster.

Australia, New Zealand and South Africa cannot legitimately win games on their end-of-year tours to the northern hemisphere, because the home unions will now always go running to the IRB with claims of thuggery.

And the northern hemisphere media will always run with those stories because it fits their preconceived narrative.

Gatland has just stuffed any chance he had of every coaching the All Blacks. What a tosser.

What is going on?

Can we really believe this is a one week ban. I cant believe it was cited. As a rugby supporter I can not understand how this ended in a one week sanction.

I was of the humble opinion that the citing system was there to deal with major transgressions, that would have resulted in a red card had the officials dealt or seen it. As it was the officials on the filed did not deal with it, and it has gone to this legnth.

I agree it was a PK offence, and a borderline YC. I say borderline, as if it was his second trangression, maybe to the bin, but the incident itself deserved a PK. But a week out… wow…

NZ wont apeal this… but I hope this is not the future of our game.
