Great news, Smith has by his standards had a very ordinary tri nations and was unseen against the english last week. Pocock will be the starting 7 by WC 2011 and clearly Deans is a believer in him as he was in Genia, and that turned out good so far.

I'm also a great fan of George Smith, a fantastic player. But teams evolve and sometimes a champion has to make way for another (emerging, agree pocock is a long way from the finished article) champion ... eg. when Dan Herbert essentially took over at 13 from Jason Little from 1998.

George Smith is one of my favourite all time Wallabies. I was very surprised at his performance last weekend where Lewis Moody was all over him, Smith just wasn't at the races. I was hoping he would get another starting shot this weekend up against David Wallace to redeem himself but not to be. I wasn't aware Dingo had intended to rotate both open sides on this tour. While Pocock is talented I am still to be convinced he is the real deal and ready to dethrone Smith. I have seen some glimpses of Pococks ability but nothing to match the hype as yet. George is still only 29 and ( hopefully ) has a couple of good seasons left him at International level.

I don't want to see Smith replace Palu. Palu gives us impact and the Wallabies seem to lose some intensity, IMHO, when he is replaced. I want to see Palu play as many minutes as his legs will carry him, likewise Pocock. Smith should replace Pocock when he runs out of legs and when Palu needs replacing then Elsom should move to No 8 and Mumm to No 6 .... that would give better balance.

No problem with that. Pocock will need to - and can - pressure the Irish halves as well as being first to the ball. George on to replace Palu for the last 25 minutes to keep the intensity high.

I wish media wouldn't talk about grand slam all the time. One week at a time.
