Tiger says he’d love to be back

Tiger Woods has said he would love to be back in Melbourne next year after describing his week on the way to winning the Australian Masters as “phenomenal”.

But if the world’s No.1 golfer can’t squeeze an Australian tournament into his 2010 schedule, he’s almost certain to be back in late 2011 when the President’s Cup is played at Royal Melbourne.

“I would love to come back, certainly I would love to,” Woods said.

When asked whether that meant next year, he replied: “Yes, I would love to.”

He will consult his 2010 program in the next couple of months before deciding on a schedule for the year.

After starting the final round at Kingston Heath on Sunday locked in a three-way share of the lead at 10-under par, Woods carded a 68 for a tournament total of 14-under par and a two strokes win over West Australian Greg Chalmers.

Woods didn’t take long to reclaim the outright lead from Chalmers and NSW’s James Nitties, leaving an eagle putt on the par five first centimetres shy of the pin for an easy tap in for birdie to go to 11-under.

Playing in the final group, minutes behind Woods, Chalmers followed suit to lock the scores again while Nitties bogeyed the third and never threatened again, shooting a one-over par 73.

The world No.1 again took the sole lead with birdies at the fifth and sixth and when Chalmers followed a birdie at the sixth with a bogey at eight, Woods held his unassailable two-shot lead.
