Coyne wants Colosimo to cop it
Perth Glory fullback Jamie Coyne hopes former teammate and current Sydney defender Simon Colosimo plays “crap” in Sunday’s A-League clash between the two sides.
Colosimo jumped ship from Perth at the end of the 2006/07 season to join glamour club Sydney FC.
The 30-year-old is yet to face the Glory in Perth since making the switch but that will all change when he lines up for Sydney in Sunday’s showdown at ME Bank Stadium.
Coyne said while he held no hard feelings towards Colosimo, he hoped Perth’s fans would do their best to put the former Glory skipper off his game.
“Obviously when Simon left here it wasn’t the best circumstances but he’s a friend of mine and he was a good player when he was here,” Coyne said.
“He has been having a good season but hopefully he plays pretty crap on the weekend, that would be nice and hopefully the fans get stuck into him, that would be good.”
Coyne declared himself fully fit for the match after recovering from a slight thigh strain that kept him out of the club’s 1-1 draw with Wellington two weeks ago.
With midfielder Wayne Srhoj suspended for a week after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season, Coyne could slot into central midfield or may replace Scott Neville at right back.
“I was unfortunate to miss the game last week against Wellington but it’s come good in the last week or so, so I’m ready for the game on the weekend,” Coyne said.
Sydney skipper Steve Corica (hamstring) is still no certainty to play, while Glory winger Victor Sikora is hopeful of a return after encountering his own hamstring problem.
In a quirk of the fixtures, Perth are yet to play table-topping Sydney this season but Coyne said the Glory were well aware of the strengths of Vitezslav Lavicka’s charges.
“Watching them on TV they’re very well organised,” Coyne said.
“A few teams have accused them of playing a bit of ugly football but I think they’ve got some very good ball players.
“They’ve got Corica, (Alex) Brosque, (Mark) Bridgey … (Karol) Kisel and even Colosimo up the back is good on the ball.
“They do like to play out from the back and have the players to do it so I think they do play a very attacking style of football.
“They will throw players at you and try to create a lot of movement and have players run at you so it’s tough on defenders.”
Perth sit fifth on the table, seven points adrift of Sydney.
