Strong Socceroos 11 to face Kuwait?
While it has been said the Socceroos v Kuwait in January will be an A League based 11 (as the match is not played on FIFA dates), that may not necessarily be the case.
If we work on the basis that overseas based players available would include those not playing regular first team football for their clubs, and those playing in leagues that will be in recess at the time, then a Socceroos starting 11 might include only one Australian based outfielder:
Kennedy
Rukavytsya Carle Vidosic
Valeri Culina
Carney Spiranovic Neill Wilkshire
Vukovic
With the notable exceptions of Cahill, Kewell and Schwarzer, I would argue that this 11 is otherwise close to full strength.
Personally, I’d be very happy to see what Spira, Carle, Vidosic and Ruka can show if each given 90 minutes.

Another A league 11 is not a good idea…so I like your logic.

Bear,
I think we need to trust and give our HAL lads another chance… Well maybe we won’t have any choice in the matter.. But if the “All Whites” can get to the SA World Cup, with HAL players, then I think we do on paper have a team that can do the job in Kuwait…

I would also like to see a new manager take control of a fresh bunch of Roos — one of the other Dutchmen employed with the FFA, Han Berger perhaps…

Good point Brian!
I didn’t actually realise how strong a team we potentially have available. Thanks!
This starting 11 would be great to see in action, as the majority of these players will be keen to impress Verbeek to get a world cup spot.
Also, love to see that you’ve put Vukovic as the No.1. With the form he’s in at the moment, Verbeek would be stupid not to pick him!

Milligan will also be available, Djite may be if he isn’t getting a run and the club want some exposure for him, Sterjokvski, Coyne and Moore are in the mix as is Jade North. It may even be good to see if Troisi can get a release for a run, though I suspect not.
AndyRoo said | November 23rd 2009 @ 11:25am | Report comment
Coyne was pretty good on Sunday.
I wouldn’t take North though, he is ok but nothing special when he is playing week in week out and could sneak into the squad.
I would pick a fair few A league guys over him when he isn’t playing though.

Including players who are not playing first team football (not even on the bench for some of these players) equates to us having a full strength national team? You’re having a laugh.

Actually it reads a bit like the squad we’d take to Qatar if a number of players hang up their boots after South Africa.

I’d assume Moore will be starting
jimbo said | November 23rd 2009 @ 12:47pm | Report comment
Yes, from the A-League you’d pick Moore, Culina, Sterjovski, Burns, Brosque, Thompson and others – like to see Rudan get a game, he has been very good in an average AU side lately.
Should come down to having to beat Indonesia at home in Brisbane on March 3 in the last game.
Picking up a point or three against Kuwait in Kuwait on 6 January would be an unexpected bonus, but its been done before without the Euroroos.
Ben of Phnom Penh said | November 23rd 2009 @ 1:12pm | Report comment
March 3rd is a FIFA friendly date so some players may be able to make it though the short release time will make it prohibitive for most.

The A-League plus a mix of whoever we can get from Europe…

Not a bad starting XI compiled there Brain!
Although Neill has said he’d like to play, I don’t think Everton will give him time-off – you know what David Moyes is like! Milligan or Spiranovic offer a couple of options at the back. Would also like to see Wilkshire continue as a defensive midfielder, he was good there against Oman.
I still imagine Craig Moore will play, and a couple of other A-League players such as Brosque and Culina. Vukovic has been keeping brilliantly of late, though I’d prefer Galekovic in goal – he’s less likely to have a brain-snap!

Well said mate, We can not forget 5 defeat from Kuwait, I feel they will hit us with the 6th defeat on the road, those Kuwaitis have world class talent just see how they play with courage and heart to win for their small country, They beat most of the Europeans teams in the last 12 yrs, Kuwait – Portugal 1 – 1, Kuwait – Latvia 3- 0 Kuwait, Kuwait – Greece, 2 – 1 Kuwait, Kuwait – Serbia 3- 0 Kuwait, Kuwait – Bulgaria 1- 0 Kuwait, But they missed up with small teams like iran and Bahrain and Indonesia that why they always stay locally in Asia
