Crawford Report could mean trouble for disabled sports
By Gary Blaschke, 26 Nov 2009 The Crowd is a Roar Guru
The recent release of the Crawford Report on sport had every element of sports jumping up and down. The “elite”, because they were not getting any more money, the “fringe sports”, because they thought it meant more money.
Yet how much emphasis was placed on Disabled Sport ? One page of feel good statements.
The Australian Sports Commission’s criteria to be considered as a sport is competition through regional, state and national titles. Does anyone in the ASC understand that most people with a disability will never become elite or even want to?
They just want to have a go.
The Federal government is doing nothing but shirking their responsibility as they don’t have a department of recreation and want to flog it off to the states.
