Culina fined $3000 for outburst
Newcastle Jets coach Branko Culina has been fined $3000 by Football Federation Australia for labelling fellow A-League teams “shit” following his side’s loss to Wellington Phoenix.
FFA ruled on Friday Culina had breached the league’s code of conduct with his comments, made after a 1-0 loss to the Phoenix at EnergyAustralia Stadium on Sunday.
Asked if his ninth-placed team was still capable of making the finals, said: “We’re only a finals team because all the teams around us are pretty shit as well.”
The Jets were issued a breach notice and after making a submission Culina was found guilty.
The coach escaped a touchline ban, meaning he will be free to manage his team from ground level when they take on his former club Sydney FC at the Sydney Football Stadium on Sunday.
Culina insists his comments were meant to be light-hearted and has since vowed to be “boring” in his future press conferences.
