I have just paid my fifty bucks and waited hours for what I thought was going to be the greatest boxing match on Australian soil. The eight times World Champ, Roy Jones Jr, versus Australian warrior, the three time world champion, Danny Green.
Unfortunately, what I witnessed appeared to be a pathetic sideshow. The punch that supposedly knocked Roy Jones Jr to the canvas, actually glanced off his shoulder.
Let me just put some perspective on this: I am a fan of both fighters, but seriously guys, this was a joke. There is, I suppose, the possibility that Roy Jones Jr did not train at all for this fight.
But watch it for yourself and tell me I’m wrong.
I’m very disappointed.

everyone is talking about Green vs Mundine II but your all forgetting about the bigger picture. Jones vs Hopkins where is all the money in boxing? Gambling, so Roy Jones takes a dive in Australia his odds vs Hopkins are suddenly a lot longer.
Everyone is saying Roy Jones should retire now, if he does & stays retired then based on my argument I am probably wrong, Roy underestimated Green & got flattened (or was lookin at some easy quick coin) but if he goes on to fight Hopkins & it turns out to be a great fight or Jones wins then it certainly adds a lot of cred to my theory.
One more thing Dean P just because RJJ has earned a fortune does not mean he has lots of money, Tyson blew hundreds of millions of dollars on an extravagent lifestyle as have many others.

i heard that the hopkins fight was reliant on jones beating green, so there’s a good chance it won’t be going ahead.

If there are any ‘authorities’ in this game with any credibility they wouldn’t allow the Hopkins-Jones fight to proceed

Correct me if I am wrong, but Green is now a division or two above Mundine, in weight.
From all accounts, Green was far too light for his body when they fought last. This may or may not have affected the fight, certainly Mundine beat him and could have beaten him anyway maybe, however if Green’s body was out of sorts due to loss of weight, then that could certainly have affected the outcome.
I can’t see Mundine coming up to fight Green, now he is in his best weight division. Mundine is too good at dodging good fighters in his own weight division, and that takes nothing away from Mundine as a good fighter, but he seems to fight lesser known fighters.

What a joke!
We just witnessed one of the genuine all time great sportsman/ boxers who did not even throw a punch against a guy who got pumbled by Anthony Mundine, who himself is not rated highly in the USA and around the world.
Its all about marketing, when is enough, enough?

What amazed me was how easy Green got that first shot in. Jones was so obviously exposed to a right hand shot, with his own left arm dangling by his side, that it begs the question of why he wasn’t tagged like he was last night more often in his career. The fighter who stood before Green was not one of the pound-for pound greatest fighters of all time. Who was he?

If they had Stewards like racing, Roy would be outed for life for not trying.
Lets hope that was his last fight.
He made a handy fighter look good.

Jones had nothing to gain by taking a dive, it puts at risk his big money fight with Hopkins. But that is the risk in boxing – each fighter is potentially 10 seconds away from a knock out loss. Give Green some credit he has the power to put his opponents to sleep – 28 wins with 25 by KO.

Mundine has his mega-fight coming against Danny “A real meal” Geale. Mundine must be stoked. Green knocks out RJJ and now Mundine has to try to sell us the Geale rematch. Good luck.
Does anyone know if the undercard was shown on US television? Because that Hollywood Bennett fight was the biggest calamity I have seen in quite a while.

Danny Green is in it for the money so it was most likely fixed. I still can’t fathom the Green retirement thing, then doing the rounds with his autobiography then coming out of retirement. These boxers all think they are in a Rocky movie and it’s the only sport that I wouldn’t gamble on as it’s a complete take!! Last night proved it yet again.

Yet so many (see above) still treat it like a sport. I am constantly bemused by the amount of people who should know better expressing surprise at anything that happens in boxing.
