Adelaide and Melbourne have been handed tough draws for the 2010 Asian Champions League, made in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.
United, who qualified for the tournament off the back of their grand final appearance against the Victory last season but are sitting last in the A-League this year, have drawn 2009 ACL champions, Korea’s Pohang Steelers.
They’ll also face sister club Shandong, the 2008 Chinese Super League winners, and a Japanese team to be decided after the Emperor’s Cup final on January 1.
While looking decidedly better in local competition the Victory appear to have been dealt no favours in the draw either, matching up with Korea’s Seongnam, 2009 Chinese Super League champions Beijing Guoan and Japan side Kawasaki.
The top two teams from each group will progress to the round of 16, a one-off elimination match before the finals commence.

victory’s group looks a bit tougher than Adelaides, but they are also IMO better equipped. Will be an interesting group of matches…

Yeah I think Melbourne’s group is harder too. Adelaide will not want to get the wooden spoon this year! Otherwise it’ll be a long ACL for them…
