Another player is set to leave the Brisbane Roar after the A-League club finally agreed to release out-of-favour goalkeeper Liam Reddy on Wednesday.
The move follows Scottish playmaker Charlie Miller sensational walk out last week, and the Roar announced Reddy would follow at the end of the season due to “personal reasons”.
Reddy – who had lost his starting place to Griffin McMaster – had another year left on his three-year contract.
It ends a standoff that began when Reddy asked to be released from the final year of his contract so he could link up with Sydney FC.
However, negotiations stalled after Reddy reportedly demanded to be paid out until March with Brisbane only willing to pay the 28-year-old for as long as their 2009-10 season lasted.
And this could be by February if they miss the finals.
But the Roar on Wednesday announced that they had agreed on “compassionate grounds” to release Reddy at the end of the season.
Roar coach Ange Postecoglou stressed that Reddy would still work with the first team squad until then.
“We understand players need to be happy,” Postecoglou said.
“I fully expect Liam to continue to contribute to the squad in the professional manner in which he has conducted himself at the club thus far.
“When the time comes we will thank him for his time here and wish him well for the future, however right now we are focused on finishing the season strongly.”
Reddy joins a growing departure list at the Roar.
In addition to Miller and Reddy departures, ex-Socceroo Danny Tiatto will be retiring and there is speculation defender Bob Malcolm will be on the outer by next season.
Miller was initially linked to the North Queensland Fury but looks set to sign for Gold Coast United.
The Football Federation Australia have knocked back United’s application for Miller to join the Gold Coast as a guest player.
Under A-League rules, a player can’t sign up for a guest stint if he has played for another club that season.
But the Gold Coast are reportedly hoping to bring Miller in as an injury replacement for either Robson or fellow Brazilian Jefferson.
If all else fails, United must wait until next month’s transfer window and release one of their five visa players to make room for the former Glasgow Rangers midfielder.
After walking out on Brisbane on Friday, Miller was seen sitting with United owner Clive Palmer during the Gold Coast’s clash with Central Coast the next night.
Miller – last season’s Foreign Player of the Year – started training with United on Tuesday.

They can have him,
I wouldnt shed a tear if the Brisbane Roar dump
Miller, Tiatto , Malcom, Rienaldo all 30+, all have injuries none of them have backed up for 2 games in a row or played 90min all cost more than $100,000 a year.
Look at the young players coming thru, McMaster has been making some awesome saves, Tommy (the gun) Oar is ripping apart defences, Henrequie great young Brazillian import, Devere (Socceroo Under 21 captain, Cernak ( getting better every game). There is plenty of talent around and I would rather lose games and let these younger player gain expirence than have a lot of old blokes and the end of thier career, poor attitude, poor fitness and cost a packet of $$

I am with you, Cernak didn’t impress me at first but he has improved and even Nichols seems to have turned his form around.
I would be a little sad if Moore goes but if that’s what has to happen then so be it.
Very glad DeVere was re signed and hopefully they hold onto Van Dyke too.

Im concerned about Moore has he refused a 3 year contract opting for a 1 year only obviously keeping his options open.

He is looking for a loan in January for more games before the World Cup and there are plenty of rumors he doesn’t get along with Ange so I would be surprised if he is still at the roar come finals time and shocked if he plays for the roar next year.
I also assumed Reinaldo was an old bloke.

Good grief, since when did two people make an “exodus”. Hold back on the hyperbole, please.
Two players leave – one unfit and 33 and the other not playing. So what???

two people? i’m sure there has been many more since the start of last season and not many going to opposite way
im sure roar coach will make some good mid-25s signings during the off season but for now all their players are at the extremems of the age spectrum

Still not an “exodus”. Talk about going over the top.
Minniecon left pre season. None of the others were playing first team (Grossman, Seo).

he is too, I just thought he was an old dude because he was constantly injured,
they didnt even give him a medical when they resigned him from Korea
Seo is 36 and called it quits, great player actually, I think he enjoyed his time here I still think he is playing for Bris City or some one. I know he had some calf troubles.

Willy,
they knew Reinaldo was broken when the got him back from Korea (hence no medical). They also got him back for free after selling him for $400k and put him on the minimum contract for his rehab. Not a bad bit of business really, but get a solid pre-season into him and we’ll get back the 11 goal a season player we had 3 years ago. Not too sad to see Miller go, as I think he was a disruptive influence in the dressing room and was too often injured for the cash he demands in wages. The club’s priorities have to be securing DeVere (tick), Van Dijk, and the young guns. The wages of Miller & Tiatto & that dud Malcolm meant that the Roar didn’t have enough funds to keep Minnecon & Kruse. So with a limited salary cap, are you going to blow your dough on a couple of broken-down oldies you may get one more full season out of if you’re lucky or spend up on locking in your younger talent who you can build your team around for the next 4-8 years (or longer)?

I agree about reinaldo TomF, especially over the last few weeks he’s begining to look dangerous again and is putting together a nice partnership with Van Dijk. And Malcolm and Tiatto will be gone by the ned of the season which will free up space in the Salary Cap quite nicely.

TomF,
dont know who you know, but my understanding was the he didnt have the osteitis pubis problem when left to Korea.
Im not saying he is a bad footballer in fact he and awesome talent.
Im just concerned that for the dollars we are not going to get 1/4 season out of him
TomF said | December 11th 2009 @ 3:19pm | Report comment
Willy,
that’s right, apparantly they overtrained their squad in Korea as oestitis pubis is a wear and tear injury- he’s on nothing like the money we paid him before he went and knows he has to prove himself all over again. It’s pretty typical for players with OP to have a few follow up injuries in the legs after they return because they lose so much conditioning and often have to alter their gait when running to avoid a re-occurrance, so it takes time for a player to fully readjust their body (the first season back is usually interrupted for players returning from OP). The bodycount in Aussie Rules is pretty high from this injury and I think football is second in the risk for OP. The thing is that Reinaldo has had an experience of another overseas club and has realised that BR is a pretty good place to be (and his missus wants to stay in Brisbane as well), so we should see a long-term commitment after the injury issues shake out.
