Australia’s world No.22 tennis player Lleyton Hewitt is yet to decide whether to take part in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in India as security concerns surrounding the event continue to mount.

Security for the Games has been under added scrutiny since last year’s terrorist strikes in Mumbai and the March attack on Sri Lanka’s cricket team in neighbouring Pakistan.

Australia withdrew from a Davis Cup tie in Chennai in 2009 citing security concerns.

Hewitt was so worried about the situation at the time that he declared he wouldn’t travel to the region even before Tennis Australia decided not to send a team.

On Thursday, Hewitt, a two-time grand slam winner and former world No.1, said he was yet to even think about the October 3-14 Commonwealth Games in Delhi but revealed security concerns wouldn’t be the only factor in his decision.

“I think it’s the same week as a tournament I play in Tokyo every year so it’s a difficult choice for me,” Hewitt said.

“I’ve got a lot of issues — ATP ranking, there’s a lot of contract things as well.

“There’s a whole heap up in the air for me.”

Hewitt, a decorated Davis Cup player who also represented Australia at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, again declared his love and passion for playing for his country.

When asked how he would like to be remembered once his career came to an end, the 28-year-old replied: “A very loyal player for his country and (someone who) always gave 100 per cent every time he steps on the court.”
