We’ve been busy of late bringing the Sydney Rovers F.C. to life. But we promised to check in with you from time to time to keep you up to speed with our progress, so here’s the latest installment.
We’ve spent our first 100 days or so putting the corporate and financial structure for the club together, finalizing our vision for the club and completing our business plan, including management and football structure.
We’ve also been working with Reebok to bring our strip to life.
Most recently, we issued an EOI Document (Expressions of Interest) to a number of Sydney Councils and potential stadium vendors so we can establish where our home base should ultimately be.
We’ve had a great response and our target is to have a more definitive idea on the options for a base for our headquarters, training, facilities, academy and our home stadium by early to mid-March.
As you can imagine, it’s a big decision and one that has many great options. We’ll keep you posted as we work towards making our final decision.
Among all that, we’ve spoken with some prominent current and former football people to survey what’s needed for the Club to succeed.
To further that progress, in February and March we will be out in the community meeting with local associations, State League Clubs and the NSW Federation. We’ll be sharing our vision and taking a lot of time to listen to all the important football community stakeholders.
We need everyones support and we’ll be out to get it.

Ian,
looking forward to an update in March—-it can’t come soon enough. Although I will not be a supporter of the club as I’m an ex pat Sydney-sider now a permanent Gold Coast resident. However, I welcome the club to the HAL and look forward to watching some good football played by you guys up on the Gold Coast where I live. Good luck.

good stuff guys, glad you’re doing the work early on to get the foundations of this club right. With local club seasons starting up its the perfect time to be getting out there.
As keen as i am to be seeing the more public stuff out there, like strips, stadia etc, its connecting with the existing football fans that’ll make the more difference. Rusted on fans, not the type u have to win back every year with expensive gloss and hype. (Though a little of that is good too.)

Keep up the good work Ian. What are you general thoughts on the type of marquee player you will be targetting? Will you be trying to lure one of the current Socceroos who will be plying their trade in Turkey after the WC? Or will you look for a foreigner as the clubs first marquee?

Excellent, Sydney’s looking forward to it and SFC supporteres are watching with interest too.
We’ll have to think of a few naughty things that rhyme with Rovers for our derby match day songs.
Do you have a website yet?

Just remember to embrace your community, keep the prices down, play good football and engage with your local junior clubs, free tickets for junior players etc.

all good ideas and I’d add that the most promotion work needs to be done with the clubs that are in the vicinity of Rovers’ home ground. Those are the people who are best placed to make a habit out of going to the footy

Ian
I’ve got two questions
will the club be using the facilities at Riverstone which should all be completed by late 2011?
Also what exisiting A-league clubs are you modelling the club after?

Good to hear progress is being made. Please do not even consider ANZ Stadium as an option for the team’s home games!
