Nine’s Olympic coverage: Belinda Noonan and Eddie McGuire spoil the show

I have to say, I am so disappointed with the Channel 9 commentators of ‘our’ Winter Olympic Games. I have not enjoyed one minute of it, instead preferring to say to my husband to put anything else on as I can’t stand to listen to them.
Who is / was Belinda Noonan and exactly how much experience has she has over how many years? She has nothing positive to say unless led by her male counterpart. Yes, I googled her and but saw very little.
As for Eddie McGuire, he is way past his use by date. He was fired by Channel Nine as their CEO, isn’t that enough to tell them that he should not be used, especially during this beautiful event?
I cannot watch it because of Belinda and Eddie. They are a perfect match; both too self-opinionated.
I am disgusted and ashamed at the moment to call myself an Australian. A word in which Eddie cannot seem to pronounce properly.
Grow up Channel Nine and get over this Eddie thing. Have you no ticker to move into a new era with someone who has had many years experience in these type of games?
Pathetic Channel Nine and if you should win a Logie for this don’t forget it’s because there is absolutely nothing else on television!

Canada lose the ice hockey. Hours of lead up and side stories. Not one mention of how the competition works. Are Canada now out of the competition? Who knows? The only clue I got was when Kenny Sutcliffe said the winner of the USA v Canada game would go through to the quarter finals and it would be tough for the loser. Again, these people have no idea what they are doing.
Is it the best of two jumps in the aerials or the combined score? I eventually worked out that in the snowboard halfpipe that the best of the two runs is counted. I eventually worked out it was the combined time for four runs in the 2 man bobsleigh that determines the winner
Did you know that skiers in the Super G get one run? I worked that out after a while by the tone in the commentators’ voices. The list goes on. There is a complete lack of any meaningful information about how the events are actually run and scored. This fundamental information should be repeated periodically during the event as well. In general we are not that familiar with the details of these sports in Australia, a fact channel 9 has not appreciated.
Whoever is running this rock show should be sacked.
PS – The “Aboriginal” ice dancing furore is one of the most pathetic “news stories” I have ever encountered. What is this world coming to?

John, in the ice hockey all 12 countries move on no one gets knocked out during the round robin. The winner of the Canada-US game would place in the top four (US) won the right to go straight to the quarter finals. The losers (Canada) now are in a single elmination game (with Germany) along with the rest of the 8 lower ranked teams after the round robin.
The winners of these single elimination games will then move into the quarter finals. (If Canada beats Germany they play Russia) It then moves along from there with the winners climbing the brackets and going for gold. The losers of the quarter finals actually keep playing the other losers to determine 5th to 8th place.
You are very right there is very little real information about the sports they are showing.

Im a canadian, and actually from vancouver, and i have to say this coverage has been extremely dissapointing.
Im very proud to be from the host city of the 2010 olympics, but watching eddie mcguire and belinda noonan is actually painful. it seems they know absolutely nothing about the sports being shown, and make many mistakes in the commentary. to have eddie mcguire refer to our canadian skiercross athlete as “a recovering drug addict” while commentating on his run, i felt was very disrepectful. You clearly know very little of what your commentating on, so maybe you should do us all a favor and leave it up to the professionals who know the sports and the athletes.

I don’t know what’s more cringeworthy – ice dancing, or Belinda Noonan’s whiney bogan drawl that Channel 9 loosely refers to as “commentary”. I’d prefer to listen to fingernails screeching down a blackboard! Get that bitter old cow OFF THE AIR!

I usually enjoy watching ice skating events but listening to Belinda Noonan’s constant criticism and her ongoing judging comments has been absolutely painful. Most viewers want to watch an event without interruption; she wants everyone to know how knowledgeable she is with terminology and highlight the mistakes of the figure skaters. Leave that to the judging panel please and shut up and let us enjoy watching these skaters’ perform. At the very least she could make her expert comments during the replay after the performance (when we can leave the room to escape listening to her). Must be difficult for Warren Smith to have his comments/opinions degraded by Belinda Noonan’s superior knowledge.

Get Eddie off and get the Olympics on. Did we really wait 4 years to listen to TV hosts gibbering instead of watching the amazing sports action?

I found the commentary by all the Australian channel 9 host to be painful. How embarrassing for Australia to have these lot front them to the world. These people spend no time focusing on the sport and all their time making irrelevant, innocuous and downright rude comments about the participants. They seem to relish when people who have spent years of their life getting to this level (unlike their own conceited selves)fail in their quest for the ultimate goal. As far as Warren Smith goes his attempts at humour are even more embarrassing. Channel 9 should have sent them all home on day 1 and bought some decent coverage off some of the North American networks.

The TV pictures were the best ever. Thank god for the FOXTEL coverage. Eddie McGuire is an ignorant, rude bore. Forgets medal winners names, bags gay people, looks like a fat toad, lame and annoying comments, thinks he’s boss of everything. Warren Smith is the most annoying and ignorant ice skating commentator ever and as for the woman, Belinda Noonan, she must have been on valiums the whole time, on such a downer, nothing was ever good, dreary voice, so depressing. The two of them absolutely ruined the ice skating coverage. Warren Smith not only sniggered at the creative male dancers but bagged the larger ladies, such as the English skater, calling her fat and overweight and giving that as an excuse for her falling over, saying that big women can’t jump high enough and that the little asian girls would do much better. Appalling! Can’t they learn that just because they like to hear the sound of their own voices, we the viewers, who enjoy the sport would rather just hear the live sound and no commentary at all. They were all dreadful and an insult to Australians. I hope they read all of these similar comments. Needless to say they’d probably just snigger at those also, such are their ego’s. Sack the lot of them!

I love to hear and read witty comments, but please keep derogatory and personal remarks about compares to yourselves.
If you dont like the commentary there is a switch on most TVs called the on/off switch or better still change channels.

I am so pleased that so many people are sick of Eddie Everywhere and his pathetic coverage of these Olympics.. He knows nothing about Winter Sports and I reckon I might volunteer to be commentator for Aussie Rules because I know nothing about that:-) Ms Noonan, well not worth listening to her rude bitter comments. I liked Johnny Weir but he was only invited on there to cover up how rude one of the Aussies was to him. He was at least professional enough to comment on the skating. I give credit to the medal winners of Australia but do we need to be told 50 times a day? It’s like they think we haven’t seen it so many times. As for a stamp with a picture on well are they all going on the stamp or just one person? Sad…. I kept turning off and would switch back on for the bits I wanted to watch. Soooo, again I am glad everyone is fed up with the channel nine mafia.

The saddest part is that Channel 9 has the summer Olympics.
Imagine Eddie MacGuire calling the Olympic fooball!!! How scary.
