Karrie Webb is ready to take on the world armed with a mental toughness that sparked one of her best ball striking rounds to claim a seventh ANZ Ladies Masters at the weekend.

Webb believes some subtle changes implemented by coach Ian Triggs helped her shoot a career-equalling best 11-under 61 at Royal Pines on Sunday that has her confidence sky-high heading into this week’s Australian Open.

The 35 year-old Queenslander buried nine birdie putts — including a monster on her final hole — displaying the hot form on the greens that earned her the world No.1 tag a decade ago and seven major crowns.

“I’ve been working on my mental game as well as trusting my read and not second guessing myself which is a big reason why I putted so well this week,” said Webb after her stunning six shot victory over gritty defending champion Katherine Hull and faultless Korean Bo-mee Lee who went 72 holes without a bogey.

“I’ve really putted well this week, it’s gone hand in hand with the technical work I’ve put into my putting.

“Tee to green I played very well and putted exceptionally well.”

Webb said when the putts dropped, as they did regularly at Royal Pines, it took the pressure off her game.

“If you miss shot, you don’t feel you’re not going to get up and down and make par,” she said.

“It definitely helps everything else in your game.”

Webb revealed prior to her victory that her game lacked the “supreme confidence” needed against the world’s best.

“This definitely helps,” she said.

“It’s a great confidence boost, it justifies all the things I’ve been working on and all the hard work I’ve been doing.

“I know I am still capable of winning more majors … I think I’m still as good a player as I’ve ever been.”

Melbourne golf fans should brace themselves for outrageous Asian American Christina Kim who entertained galleries at Royal Pines with more than just her golf.

The gregarious Kim shot a final round 70 and finished 54th behind Webb but the fans loved her outlandish outfits and belly laughs as she yelled and urged her golf ball to “go hard” and “stop” and “sit”.

At the end of her round she signed several golf balls and tossed them into the crowd and corporate marquees before shaking hands and signing autographs for all the volunteers.

“She could do with 100 Christina Kims,” said Hull who also did herself proud sticking with a white hot Webb as long as she did.
