Hayne, Pearce and Carney sizzle in Sunday football

There is often no better sight in rugby league than to watch the NRL’s most exciting players pull out their bag of tricks on a Sunday afternoon.
Yesterday’s action saw Jarryd Hayne, Mitchell Pearce and Todd Carney become the latest players to add to the many moments that make Sunday football so special.
Out at Parramatta stadium, it appeared that winger Luke Burt’s 200th first grade game would be an occasion he would rather forget.
The Eels resembled nothing of the side that stormed to last year’s grand final, as the Manly Sea Eagles built up a commanding 20-nil lead shortly after halftime.
Indeed Parramatta coach Daniel Anderson cut a very frustrated figure at halftime, as he watched his team once again showcase the reason why the club has underperformed for the past 23 years.
A combination of silly errors and ill discipline threatened to derail the home side’s bid to not only win their maiden NRL match, but to reassert their tag as genuine premiership contenders.
But as is so often the case in the NRL, it only took a couple of moments of individual brilliance from the one and only Jarryd Hayne to guide the Eels to a memorable 24-20 victory against their rivals.
Down 20-8 in the second half, Hayne received a pass from Luke Burt in his own in goal, only to beat five defenders and race sixty metres to play a leading hand in Timana Tahu’s stunning four pointer.
Having single handily wrestled momentum back from Manly, Hayne produced the killer blow five minutes from fulltime to send Eric Grothe over for the match winner courtesy of a wonderful cut out pass.
Whilst Hayne’s performance inspired his side to an emphatic come from behind victory against the Sea Eagles, Roosters duo Mitchell Pearce and Todd Carney also left an unenviable stamp at the SFS against the Wests Tigers.
Trailing 12-nil after barely 13 minutes of play, the Pearce and Carney show eventually hit full steam in a devastating display of attacking football from the home side.
Both Pearce and Carney played leading roles in all of the four tries the Roosters scored in a clinical 12 minute period midway through the first half.
For all of the quality Tigers duo Benji Marshall and Robbie Farah presented early on, the ball playing prowess of Pearce and Carney went to another level and allowed the Bondi-Junction club to record their second straight victory under new coach Brian Smith.
Carney produced two clinical passes in each half to set up tries to Aiden Guerra and Anthony Minichiello, whilst Pearce orchestrated Mitchell Aubusson’s four pointer which opened the chooks account.
The 20 year-old also scored two tries in a man of the match display to once again reignite his chances of perhaps playing Origin for the Blues after a disastrous 2009 campaign.
Although it remains to be seen if the likes of Pearce, Carney and Hayne can guide their respective clubs to premiership glory, there is no doubting that all three players left their mark on the spectacle that is Sunday football.

Sunday football was at its best yesterday in terms of entertainment, defence in the roosters/tigers game went out the window but was fantastic to watch

Excellent games, agree, this weekends rounds look very good. I think the worst game was the Rabbits,Titians. But i did enjoy the second half and tactics used by Lang. Which seemed to backfire on him.
