It’s another cracking weekend ahead in the NRL, so here’s the scoop for all your tips.
Tigers v Eels. Sydney Football Stadium, Sydney. Friday 7.35pm
If you thought Jarryd Hayne was brilliant, and there is a good chance you did, I have two words for you … Mitch Brown (you may need to Google the name, but after this game, he’ll be the most well known Tiger since Tony, the Frosties mascot). Tigers by 20.
Dragons v Cowboys. WIN Stadium, Wollongong. Friday 7.35pm
Cowboys half, Johnathan Thurston will walk out on the Club at the end of the season and head to Hollywood. Word has it that the Cows superstar has received a too-good-to-pass-up offer from Universal Studios who, after witnessing his performances for the Cowboys so far this season, thought he would be perfect for a remake of ‘The Lone Ranger’ … Dragons to beat Thurston … erm, The Cowboys (same thing really) by 18.
Panthers v Storm. CUA Stadium, Penrith. Saturday 5.30pm
Penrith prop, Petero Civoniceva has fielded an offer from his former Club, Brisbane to return home to Queensland next season and finish his career where it started. Round Review Ninjas have the inside mail that the great Man is about to drop a bombshell and reveal that he has decided to take up an offer from the Museum of Sydney to walk out on the remainder of his football career and take his place among the Museum exhibits … .with the rest of the dinosaurs. Look for Peterosaurus to finish his time with the Mountain Men with a roar, starting with this game … Panthers by 1.
Eagles v Knights. Bluetongue Stadium, Gosford. Saturday 7.30pm
Not much to write about this game other than to say, when the Eagles lose, it will be the referee’s fault. Ask anyone dressed in maroon and white, they’ll tell you. Knights by 6.
Titans v Raiders. Skilled Park, Gold Coast. Saturday 7.30pm
Titans 5/8, Greg Bird, has spoken out about the treatment of NRL players facing criminal proceedings, saying that the players should be allowed to keep playing. Bird has suggested that, instead of people pointing fingers at players who are under investigation, people should instead imagine the players’ victims have carried out the alleged offences on themselves. If you have that sort of imagination, you’d be picking the Raiders to win this game. Raiders by 7.
Broncos v Warriors. Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane. Sunday 1.00pm
Christians the World over have descended upon Brisbane paper, The Courier Mail’s offices demanding that the fish and chip wrapper to be remove anything they have written regarding new Broncos fullback, Corey Norman, on the grounds of blasphemy. Apparently, according to the Christians at least, Norman, is not the reincarnation of Christ himself. Which is a shock to anyone that has read anything The Courier Mail has written about him. Speaking of resurrections, Warriors by 8.
Bulldogs v Roosters. ANZ Stadium, Sydney. Sunday 3.00pm
Bulldogs centre, Jamal Idris has been handed an official order from the NRL, demanding he cut off his dreadlocks before kick off in this game or risk being de-registered by the game’s governing body. Apparently, after comparing Idris form with that of Tigers’ Comeback King, Lote Tuqiri’s performances to start the season, Jamal isn’t fit to be sporting the hairstyle of Champions. Roosters by 20.
Sharks v Rabbitohs. Toyota Park, Cronulla. Monday 7.30pm
In a shock for all Rugby League traditionalists, the South Sydney Rabbitohs have accepted a multi-million offer from Channel Seven to rename the club ‘The Matty Johns Show’. Now, we understand how the die hard red and green faithful would be up in arms over this, but if you really think about it, nothing says South Sydney like a show that promised so much, yet delivered so little. Sharks by 2.

well Sportsfan, it appears this challenge is going to be closer than first thought. After cleaning you up deluxe in rd1, a sobering reality came my way last week in the form of a pretty decent round’s tipping from you, to the point where you’ve jumped ahead.
Surely that’s your season high point done then…

Well well well….out from the woodwork he crawls…Mr McKay, I see our battle royale playing out much like this first couple of Rounds all season long….until, much like the Tigers, I come through with superior talent and class.
Good Day to you…My Nemesis….

Funny you should mention that Oik! The Great Oracle otherwise known as one B.McKay has taken up that very challenge vs the irrepressible Round Review….and so far, after two Rounds…The Round Review is quite dominant….Never let the ridiculous content overshadow the fact that this is all based on an exact science….*ahem*

Speaking of dominant Mr McKay, and not to use this great forum that is The Roar as a promotional tool (it is however,my only means of communication with your mysterious self)….I would be keen for your thoughts on my latest venture, a podcast, which you can find at http://www.thisweekinleague.com
Any feedback at all would be cool….Cheers!

I’ll check it out over the weekend – if the podcast is as good as your “*awards may have been self awarded” disclaimer, then I’m sure it’ll be great.
Get in touch with the Eds though (use the contact links below), I’m sure you’ll be able to link to your podcast to your pre-round review each week…

Tipping comps are for losers, get on the punt if you rate yourself.
Tipping a winning team that is 10 point favourites is no big achievement – deciding whether they cover the line takes a lot more skill.

PuntPal, I too enjoy a punt as well as a good spirited Tipping Comp, no harm in either. Wouldn’t class myself as a loser, perhaps not surprisingly, for belonging to the odd Tipping Comp.I have also been known to collect a few dollars by punting on the Finnish Bandyliiga Floorball Championship,so I guess you’d have to say I’m no loser at the punt either…Oh, and I never tip against the Tigers, a team rarely seen as 10 point favourites…just sayin

I’m pretty sure if I get on the punt and then lose I will be a bigger loser than joining a tipping comp.

Even bigger losers are blokes who claim to have the secret formula to winning but rather than making millions themselves feel they have to try and sell it. Surely if it was that good you;d be keeping it a secret. Nothing worse than some small time back yard operator trying to pass himself off as a big shark.

Also Brett – you and your boyfriend (Mushi) conceed defeat I take it on the Ref’s – Robert Finch issue?
You both came in all guns blazing, only to fire all your bullets without me even raising a sweat.
You also both mocked the idea that Finch should be sacked for imcompetatnce and for potential of bias and a conflict of interest…want to make a wager as to whether he gets the gig in 2011???

well for starters PuntPal, I’m not going to highjack Sportsfan’s artcile by getting back into your debate.
But I will say that I offered my thoughts, to which you retorted with your own arguments, and by which I still maintain are all over the place, and so I’ve moved on.
Take that as a concession if you like, I’m certainly not losing sleep over it. Personal baiting certainly isn’t going to bring me back in…

Take a bet on Finchy keeping his job? Mate come-on, he is a protected species. If he drops a linesman here or there, he will grow old in his job.
Dinosaurs, 1st thing the commission needs to look at come 2011.
Then i will gladly take your bet.
