My advice is get all your jobs around the house done before Friday Night football and a weekend of cracking games.
Yes, I know the lawn shouldn’t be mowed after 11pm, but if you’re quick and have St Kilda or Collingwood fans for neighbours, they will understand.
Round 3 offers an incredible array of great match-ups, so much so that I fear the wife could take the cricket bat to the big screen or lock herself upstairs to drown in romantic DVDs and books, like that Twilight-New Moon drivel.
St Kilda v Collingwood
St Kilda destroyed North Melbourne, blew them away as ruthlessly as any team could from the opening bounce.
Collingwood started off the season in sizzling style getting over the perhaps hyped up Bulldogs, who may have believed their press for a second too long.
The Pies then, however, almost faltered against the pluck of Melbourne. Great game, that one.
Both of these teams at their best are super-sharp and red hot at the footy. Will Reiwoldt be the difference? I suspect, yes.
One thing is for certain, this game will be played at a cracking pace.
Saturday offers 4 games with even match-ups, except the Sydney Vs Richmond game, which the Swans should win comfortably on form.
Port Adelaide Vs Brisbane
This will be the one to watch on Saturday. These two sides are firing for finals contention already.
Port are playing hard accountable football, whilst Brisbane have the great man at the helm in Jonathon Brown. Who is going to stop him?
Carlton Vs Essendon
Carlton and Essendon play each other in a traditional blockbuster this week.
Make no mistake, Essendon will come out firing on Saturday and will be keen to atone for their insipid performance against the improving Dockers.
At least, they better be!
Carlton will be smarting from its defeat to Brisbane and will be trying to remove the image of a smurky Fevola offering condolences to his former team-mates after they lost the game.
Essendon always rise against Carlton but will their midfield be too strong?
West Coast Vs North Melbourne
West Coast have been great to watch, just for Naitinui. In this game, it’s do-or-die for the Shinboners at North. Both these teams must win and are evenly matched. Prepare for battle.
Sydney Vs Richmond
Whilst on paper this looks a sure win for the Swans, the Tigers have surprised them before and will be competitive. For me, the interest lies in how Jetta will excite the fans with his speed and skill and just how many goals Goodes can kick as a genuine forward.
Come Saturday Night after finishing all those odd jobs by 2am, you’ll need to get some sleep.
Western Bulldogs Vs Hawthorn
Hang on to your armchair! Like the Saints and Pies game, this match will be played at blitz speed. There are probably only 5-6 teams capable of blitz style run and tackle football.
The unsociable Hawks will go very hard at the more rounded, skilful Bulldogs, who should win just.
Adelaide Vs Melbourne
Another good match up based on form and ladder position. Adelaide normally chalk this one up as an away win at the start of the season. Buoyed by their performance against the Pies, the Demons could win their first game of the season.
I hope they do it for Jim Stynes.
Fremantle Vs Geelong
This is a danger game for the Cats, who are already weakened by suspension to Mooney and Scarlett, as the Dockers are up and about. On their home turf, expect an upset. The crowd at Subiaco will go off its nut if the Dockers are in front during the last quarter.
The Dockers appear to be playing the game of their lives, with Sandilands being a seven foot mountain for the opposition to climb. He is a very good overhead mark with surprisingly slick foot and hand skills for a huge bloke.
Pavlich and Headland are very dangerous big body forwards, whilst Barlow is winning the hard ball in the centre.
I’m tipping the Dockers.
I probably wont be able to catch every game this weekend, but I can guarantee I‘ll see at least 5 of the 8.
Just too good to miss.
Of course, come Monday, I could be free to watch every game, every week, every season, for the rest of my life.

There are some really tough games to pick this weekend. I have gone for a few upsets in the pies, bombers, and dockers. It could be a great weekend or absolutely horrible.

please, we are Fremantle, Freo or the Fremantle Football Club not the dockers.
asidefrom this thankyou for a rather nice write up. It is a strange thing being a fremantle fan and finding positive articles about our team, especially over the last three years. The most impressive things for me are the things that are going un noticed. In the adelaide game Mayne sprayed a shot on goal when a handball to ballantyne would of guaranteed the 6 points., not only was he dragged almost immeadieatly but a number of senior players had a quick quite word with him.
A second incident in the same game, this time Nick suban was tracking a ball to the boundary lin deep into the 4th quarter when fremantlehad the game won. his attack on the ball was absent and he was beaten to the ball by an adelaide player who had charged an extra 10-15 meters to get there. following the missed shot on goal by the adelaide player tarrant sprinted a good 20 meters to berate the younger suban. As a supporter of hte club i was very impressed by both of these incidents as to me it suggests the players are on something of az mission this year and appear very focussed.

The two best strategies for tippping over the last few years have been:
1) Never tip Fremantle
2) Always tip Geelong
If Fremantle beat Geelong on Sunday, expect to wake up on Monday and see that the grass is orange and the sky is brown.
But yeah, should be a cracking weekend of footy. God I wish I had foxsports.

Ruddy Carlton was my tipping achillies heel this week…..scored on the Dockers (and that tip was made before Ottens withdrew……so, lucky!!!).
Took the family to the footy on Saturday arvo, North getting up over the Weagles,
we’ll love it if other teams can give Boomer and Wellsy that much latitude going forward!!!!!
Good to see Liam Anthony, Jack Ziebell and Ryan Bastinac all going well – - with barely 30 games b/w them.
Bastinac has been great given that it was Cunnington that was expected to be ready to go straight up (held back due to foot soreness in pre-season). Cunnington should be ready to merge into that midfield group shortly and boost us a tad more.
Watching the Bombers with Melksham and Colyer just reminds though that the young kids can pull out the odd super effort early days – but as winter wears on they will tend to fade and need to be carefully managed. I still reckon it was a blessing in disguise that at North last year that Ziebell and Warren only got the 10 games each (both got broken legs)…..rather than potentially being over worked through a full season.

The Essendon v Carlton game was pretty lacklustre but the showing of Melskham and Colyer very pleasing along with the steady improvement of Gumbleton. We have Hurley back this week which will help against the weagles.
