NRL to blame for Melbourne’s Storm

The NRL have only themselves to blame for what has happened to the Melbourne Storm and should be taking some, if not all, of the blame. They must now act to help save the Storm and rugby league in the southern states.
The NRL has done nothing for the Storm.
The AFL, on the other hand, when it has started up new teams in new markets (for example with the Brisbane Bears, Lions, Sydney Swans and more recently with GC17 and GWS) it has given cash, draft concessions and an increase in the salary cap for these new teams so they can be competitive from day one.
If the NRL had done the same for the Storm we would not be in this situation we are today.
Also I can understand all the penalties given out for the last five years, but to take away all the points for the rest of this season is just another free kick for AFL.
What do the players or the supporters have to play for this year? Nothing.
Strip them of 10 points and fine them. But at least give the supporters that have paid their money something.
Yet again the NRL are to blame for this.
R.I.P Storm.

To think that Storm is the only team breaching the salary cap is the equivelant to denying life exists elsewhere in the galaxy !

I disagree entirely with the premise that any team should be handed salary cap concessions by any sporting organisation. Brisbane’s $600k salary cap extension allowing them to monopolize AFL premierships in the early 00′s yet it did nothing but disadvantage the traditional clubs and their supporters in order to build up artificial, bandwagon support in Queensland. If the product is strong enough and marketed well, there is no need to buy-out new supporters.
It’s a sad day for sport in this country, for rugby league specifically and for Melbourne Storm supporters, however the NRL need to be applauded for not prostituting their product and turning it into an unequal playing field.

100% correct. This article is by a Victorian Strom fan convinced of some notion that the NRL are responsible. Please. News Ltd, who own the Storm also own a 50% stake in the NRL. The NRL would do whatever its paymasters demanded. In this case your club has been caught systematically ripping off me, you & every other League fan.
Your club are to blame. No one else.

The Storm will emerge stronger as a result of the clean out.
This whole incident will assist the NRL by finally making Victorians consider their rugby league team.
It will put the us and them in them and us…

would you risk your players playing against the storm on the field, knowing that the following week was an important game.

Well you don’t get 2 points unless you beat them. So yes I would risk them.
