Very poor timing for a marketing opportunity.
Anyone heard of the budget??

indeed, and since when has the budget stopped sports fanatics discussing world cup selection? =)
interesting to see if the rumours re: ruky, lowry, beauchamp, carle are valid.

Soccer fanatics may discuss it yes, but a marketing opportunity was lost for all those families who will be a lot more concerned with the budget.

Forgetmenot – can you find any pieces on The Roar discussing what Mr. Swan will do when he hands down his budget tonight. This is a sports blog. If the budget is such a massive concern to you then you are on the wrong website
Not long to go now – I heard this morning that Pim will be naming a 30 man squad as opposed to the 27 that bandied about in the media over the last few days.

Basically if they had announced the squad yesterday, friday or in a couple of weeks (if that was possible) then the squad would have received a lot more news coverage than it will currently.
Yes soccer fanatics will all be interested in it, but the rest of the country will be firmly focused on the budget(sport is included in the budget).

forgetmenot – According to the 2010 FIFA World Cup Regulations, the 32 qualified teams must provide a list of up to 30 players by 11 May (midnight CET).
Today is May the 11th. Some countries announced their 30 man squads yesterday. The great majority are announcing their squads today. Regardless of the situation in their respective countries.
FYI – The deadline for the 32 teams to provide a final list of 23 players is 1 June 2010 (midnight CET).
So expect another announcement from Pim on June 1. Regardless of the news of the day.

Franny and Foz’s squad picks were interesting on TWG.
Franny had Holman in the squad, whereas Foz had Carle as a striker (!) reasoning we needed proven goalscorers (!!!!)
